Interesting Retired Old Guy.
In 1942 I was in the Australian Army most of which was spread along the
west coast of Australia. The Japanese had bombed Darwin , Broome and
another port on the north west coast (Exmoputh I think) and were expected
to make an invasion. In 1943/44 I was posted to Garden Island off the cost
at Fremantle. We had an alert and stood to for three days with air raid
warnings. Then we heard of the Battle of the Coral Sea and it seemed from
that time on the Japanese were in retreat.
I was discharged in 1944 when male teachers were so scarce in this state
that those not in strategic work were discharged and sent back to
teaching.
Another Retired Old Guy. Not many of us left now!!
