I understand that possibly the last Rose digipeter in NSW is to
close.
During the life of early packet radio, the Rose Network, rather than
Netrom, was a wonderful way around the State.
However there was some bitter controversy between Netrom sysops and
Rose, but at that early time, netrom was not approved in VK?
One must congratulate those sysops who gave of their time to establish
the mountain top Rose repeaters.
These required frequent updating of node information, as well as
rebooting with all the necessary data, if a power drop out occurred.
One known sysop would meticulously keep his system up and travel to his
mountain top, at the drop of a hat, to repair it, regardless of bad
weather or time of day! Vale Tom VK2ETP.
Certainly some found it a bit hard to understand the long contact
strings for each location, sometimes referred to a phone numbers, but it
all worked very well.
I wonder if there are other Rose systems still in operation around the
world?
