MARCH 2008 ISSUE No 118A
__________________________________________________________________________
TUESDAY 1 APRIL 2008 - 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF RAF FORMATION
2008 is also the 70th anniversary of the year when CARTS (Cranwell Amateur
Radio Transmitters Society) became the RAF wide RAFARS and the G8FC
licence was issued as the Voice of the Society so the Society's aim is for
a major on-air presence to mark all those special anniversaries.
On 1 April 2008, we will attempt to activate every RAF, RFC & FC
callsign we have plus every GB-RAF SES we can get.
In addition all the Area Callsign holders, affiliated Clubs and ATC
formations are invited to participate.
We hope to plan something similar in combination with RAF Cosford Air Show
on 1 June 2008 which has the 90th anniversary as its theme. More on that
later.
Confirmed participants for 1 April 2008:
Those that are also AOTA activations will say so on-air on the day.
GB9XRAF and G8FC / G8RAF from RAF Cosford (RAF celebration)
GB7XRAF from Dorset (RAFARS celebration from 28 March to 6 April)
GM3RAF from RAF Kinloss for 1 April
G3RAF from Devon 28 March to 6 April except 1 April
GXRFC from Cornwall about 28 March to 6 April
GBXRAF from North East Aircraft Museum (Middleton)
GB1RAF from a WW1 airfield north of the Humber
GB2RAF from RAF Neatishead
2E1RAF from Cumbria
G0RAF from Lincoln (RAF Waddington Club)
GB2AIR from Doncaster Aircraft Museum (previously RAF Doncaster and site
of first European aviation meeting in 1909)
G7RAF from Lincolnshire
G3TCQ from South Yorkshire
G3JDY from East Yorkshire
G3HWY from West Yorkshire
G3EKT from North East
G3PSG from Marske by the Sea
RFC & RAF Gunnery School (formerly in North Yorks)
G4PSH/P from Stalham Norfolk Air Cadets
M0KAC from Cumbria (Kendal Air Cadets)
C/S TBN from Ronaldsway, Isle of Man
Several other area calls are expected.
Sad to say G1RAF AND G6RAF are not available for April.
WHERE, WHAT AND WHEN ?
Aiming at 0800 hrs to 2000Hrs GMT. We hope every station will do what they
can, when they can on that day, for as long as they can, on as many bands
as they can - but only within their resources available.
Extra time or days on-air to spread the word will be great too but we do
appreciate that family a & work comes first.
Idea is to first contact each other on the regular net frequencies then to
congregate close to them on each band (but not so close as to cause each
other QRM) for members and other amateurs to have a go at.
All modes as available.
We hope for a very special QSL Card for GB90RAF. but for the rest of the
Society Stations we plan an individualised card with a common Picture /
layout.
MANAGEMENT
There is no formal leader for this event because we expect many variations
and we want everyone to have their best shot and have a fun day.
However, if you need a contact - GXDAM Bob is QTHr QRZ.
WHAT CAN YOU DO ?
Take part. Have fun.
If you are associated with any of the invited groups, please pass the
word. We seek maximum exposure - the more the merrier.
Best regards & 73
Bob.
