Hello Peter

First of all Peter, Happy and Healty New Year. Hope the lbs (Kg's) disappear over the
coming months. [smile]. I'll be doing the same.

I'll add my feedback...On some recent PACKET Bulletins/News Articles

Peter, I did noticed that you appeared on the World Wide Convers Channel 11 (Used by our
Group. We are always looking to meet old and new friends) and wished us a Happy New Year
on 8 January 2011 03:06 UTC while we were tucked up between the sheets.

Yes Peter, some of us are still running the WWC convers servers over the amprnet.
54 Servers currently connected to the network as seen here at Caterhem_UK.
Use to be many more.

Or course there has since been other CHAT network systems been setup Xrouter(CHAT),
BPQ(CHAT), FBB(Convers)(non network).

Had a very nice one to one realtime QSO with a ZL2 HF Pactor station that had connected to
GB7CIP using the FBB Convers server (command C) for half an hour the other day on 14MHz
Long Path.

Some major networks have dissappeared in recent years for one reason or another.

Some years ago we would see 200 to 300 users logged on from around the world. Including
the SysOps. Chating away and caused many late nights (Burning the candle at both ends)
resulting in not getting much sleep.

Yes the old days were a lot of enjoyment on the WWC chat nodes.

After all I have been running one since the late 1980's. To encourage one to one(many)
realtime contacts. Alse Node Hopping and establishing one to one realtime QSO's.

Normally stay logged on locally or when away (using xchat) or using a simple telnet client
like putty. I seem to remember WinPac has a spilt screen telnet client. I saw
demonstarted at one of the Conventry UK SysOP Meetings, when we connected in to the WWC
network.

If Users can not find a local WWC node. You can connect to the Caterham nodes GB7CP, or
GB7CIP-5.

Connecting in via the Internet will require your static IP address, or hostname to be
added to the convers server configuration file.

If connecting via the amprnet 44Net address or AX25/NetRom
Need to create a free reverse DNS hostname look up first. I use the following site for
mine. There are others.

e.g. ve9ccc.dyndns.org Have a look at
http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/

how to configure XCHAT
http://www.theskywaves.net/tcpip/XCHAT_IRC_Client_gb7cip.pdf

Re SKYPE Peter. I have only had two test connections with that application many years ago
to test that it was installed and configured..

Same applies to echolink.

If John K0RL wants a one to one HF 20MHz Pactor (QSO) (Frequecies published monthly) or
even try AX25.

Over the Past 48 hours or so. All I can hear are AX25 APRS's broadcast becomes when I have
looked around the EU Bandplan frequecies. 3.5, 7.0,10.0 14MHz bands. So not a lot
happening...

Best Wishes to the PACKET readers

Paul G4APL (GB7CIP and Caterham_UK convers system)
