Hello all Packeteers ...
When I saw again, yet another BBS system closing at the
end of the month, namely VK7AX; It reminded me of yet
"Another nail in the BBS coffin" as well Packet.
Times are a changing, and even schools now, have no
school ham station, but the best comupter setups that
give the students pretty well better communications.
Even our local Hammie club, for many years before they
ended their Packet BBS, talked over, and on the club
repeater , anything and all to do with the Internet
and how to hook up their precious ham radios for this
and that to the point, well after some wobbly excuses
just pulled the plug. They might as well now call
their club a Internet computer club.
This is an old topic ... so no need to go further here.
YOU can if ou want. Heard it all.
Not too long ago, the packet system here in Ontario
died, and there was no packet for a week, and I only
heard from "one" person about his packet equipment.
Thus the power of packet.
Last year, WE tired to get some International Support
Orgainization going to keep packet stations on the air
that were going to close, for many reasons...some are
still going, and yet some are not...they died, as
their support disappeared.
Sysops too are human, and getting old, and retired or
retiring, and money is tight, so it all was a good
idea, and ownership could have been shifted gradual
etc ...but oh well...At least thoseof us that tired
can rest easy.
YES ...sad day to see VK7AX going, and there are going
to be more. Good Luck Tony, and thank you for all
you have done.
