When I was at school, over half a century ago, we were taught that Radium
was discovered and extracted by husband and wife team Pierre and Marie
Curie.
About 20+ years ago, Pierre mysteriously disappeared.
Schoolchidren now are tough by their feminist teachers that Radium was
discovered solely by Marie Curie. In the UK there is even a marie Curie
Cancer Fund.
In fact, Pierre was involved in the discovery of the piezo electric
effect, which all us radio hams know about, don't we ?
Later he took an intetrest in cryogenics after reading the works of
William Thompson who discovered Absolute Zereo and devised a scale he
called "Degrees Absolute" which was degrees Centigrade with - 273.16 as 0
A.
Latyer, this was changed to Degrees Kelvin then just 'Kelvins'.
Curie is remembered as he has the 'Curie Point' named after him as well as
the 'Curie Temperature.

As for Marie's Nobel Prize, the truth is that Pierre and Marie were
awarded a quarter prize each, the other half was awarded to Henri
Beccquerel so Marie only got 1/4 Nobel Prize.
All the above can be checked on the internet but, beware! The internet is
a mine of misinformation, especially sites like Wikipaedia. However, the
internet was riginally designed for scientists to communicate and compare
notes so, if you go to an .ac or educational website, you are likely to
get the truth.
The demonstration of the Curie temperature is from MIT BTW.
