GB7FCR is closing down shortly. I would like to publicly thank Trevor the
sysop for all the help and advice he has given me. Due to there being no
aerials allowed in this area,I would have been off packet 7 years ago if
not for him.

After giving it some thought, I have decided not to try to find another
Telnet BBS. I remember the days, 20 years ago when I first used packet on
a primitive Baycomm modem with it's simple software. By about 1995 packet
was at it's height and I had changed up to a 386 with TPK 1.81.

Everyday I found that TPK had downloaded 200 headers from GB alone and,
after readin and replying to selected ones I often spent the night node
hopping, seeing how far I could get. My longest trip was the length of
England to the node IOW on the Isle of Wight, 300 miles to the south, from
there, I detected a French node and it's BBS so I connected to it and sent
myself an SP as a kind of QSL. A slow, 800 mile round trip.

So, I will depart with GB7FCR. I think 20 years is long enough. Co-
incidentally, it was about the length of time I spent on CB and I don't
miss that either.

Best wishes to anyone who has replied to my bulletins (especially Pete).

All the best. Ian.
