Hello Barry, and welcome to the discussion, that I hope
will spawn some International action, via countrys
and people, be it sysops or users doing something
about this.

It is common cause, and should not as one email I got
be politics, or fellow hobbyists taking each other to
court.

With all the problems with Internet, and while I have been
here this morning, my wife has been having quite a few
I would agree with that ... It is the reason I keep my
packet gear out of the cupboard, and in use. The
program is , as old as the hills, and OS is DOS 5.0
so I see where you are coming from in the comparison
with Internet.

When I dropped my landline BBS and it's dedicated line
in 2005, it was due to NO users for a number of years.
NO new users for 5 or more years before that, with
Internet coming into the area...and 1 of 31 BBSes remained.

Funny, I agree with your minor study. I look at BBSes
now with dedicated Lines also accessed via the Internet
Telnet, like some packet BBSes. I telnet to a BBS
that has a telephone line and is in Florida, and
is on a network called FIDOnet ... and not only are
there NEW BBSes coming on Telnet...but also having a
that dedicated line ...... So Barry even if local
is possible, the network is still a LD call away to
exchange incoming and out going traffic.

When you mention copper ... there was a news item...where
crooks now stripped a church of the copper sheets on the
roof ....

Agreed. Isn't that the reason for the hobby? Besides
in the FBB program, there is a part of that program
that allows for an FBB program to accept a user via
that users calling in on his/her computer via the
telephone line connected to the FBB computer.

I don't think the tubes will disappear ...well not right
now...but then it depends on the youth after the baby
boomers, and ...well I hope so. Tubes or valve rigs
I find seem to work better.

> Any glass blowers around ?

I am sure there are ... We have vintage radio clubs here
and they have no problems getting them. I heard Russia
was a source. As for glass blowers...mmmm Venice if
we need a last place.

It seems there are a lot of sysops, that are independent
of the clubs. Of all the BBSes here, I have found 1 from
a club, the rest are well maintained systems in our area
by individuals. Some ..at sometime are sick...and it is
funny how a ssop gets a call at home...not to equire;
"How are you?" BUT... to see what happened to the BBS
and when is it coming on again. I a past posting
I suggested giving money and even finding needed equipment
to help a BBS stay online ... that created an uproar
BUT was done. Also used equipment even was sent
to another sysop in another country ... SO I know this
can be done.

Yes ...I saw the postings of VK2KGZ ...and his final
swan song going to HF. I too wish him luck.

SO ... when are WE who are left going to get down to
how to keep packet going .... RF or Telnet and both
with local telephone access too for those hams
now stuck in seniors homes to die bored.

Thank you Barry for your comments.
