I know you are a driver,Rodge but I just wondered if you fly. I am
disabled but not chair bound and just behave like a normal person (though
it is painful). Last year I went across the channel via a low cost airline
with a friend who does need a chair.

He booked one for the airports and we were really surprised by the good
natured way in which he was helped. LPL had a chair waiting and a pusher.
He bypassed all the queues and sped him through the security gates, while
I got the usual nasty treatment ! He left us at a bar as we had plenty of
time to kill and got us aboard using a lift. In short, everything was made
as easy as possible. The return was not quite as good, especially at
Schiphol but they are a surly lot there. Nonethe less he was whisked
through quickly and, once back at LPL we got the same, kind treatment as
on the ouitbound flight.

My mate usually uses an electric trike but we had to make do without it.
Any travel we did inside AMS was by taxi - not cheap but I had arranged a
hotel with lifts, close to a tram and bus terminus as well as being next
to the museums. Al in all it wasn't bad but it would have been nice to
hire an electric trike.

We could, of course, have arranged to put his normal chair in the hold,
usually at no extra charge.

He has nagged me into going again this year as he likes the people and the
best Guinness outside of Ireland (he says). I look forward to a pleasant
holiday again.

As for ferries, higher cost and harder to get around plus the 300+ mile
trip to Dover/Folkestone. I didn't know what they did with wheelchairs
until reading your message.

All the best and bon voyage, Ton ami...
