Handicapped driver?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Most of the short haul routes ie Dover-Calais is not normally a problem
and the car deck supervisors will make it easy for the legless to have
at least 8ft to back into their w/chairs then to the lift and also
provide assistance with o2 cylinders BUT the longer haul routes
Hull-Zeebrugge/Rotterdam is entirely a different matter. You have booked
your passage for certain days and you have told them the driver has no
legs (like pull the other one!) so when you arrive on the car deck
normally the third up they direct you to say close to the curb, i
deliberately disobey their instructions and hold to the screen a blue
badge with a photo of me in pants and vest showing my knee stumps and
like do you really want me to open my door? They im very sorry sir i had
no information, me, well i need at least 8 feet clearance to back in to
my wheelchair, right sir will do leave it with me. Then there is a nasty
little surprise of a transfer from your chair to their very miniscule
chair and a haul backwards over a 1:4 ramp into a lift to RED deck then
transfer to your own chair. My handicap came about as the result of war
in Borneo in 1962 and Gangrene. Any complaint is treated very seriosly
but forgotten as soon as you disembark yet weve been travelling with P&O
for very many years.

In Britain at the mo we have the Incap Ben culture and they will all
queue in the disabled persons lane yet not one will have a wheelchair in
the car, they insist on the big wide door cabins yet have no reason to
want one. Boy have we seen some fun at check in on board. I may not have
been allocated a cabin so i have to check in, any sighted person can see
a 30in wheelchair will not go through a 18in gap so its stand by your
beds time! all blue badge cabins are knocked up and its stand by your
beds and wheres your wheelchair?

NOW a new policy is in force all BB Cabins are held until the ship is
ready for sea, then if anyone wants an upgrade they may qualify:)

Answer me this:Ive NO legs, my hearing is shot, i work on one lung why
would anyone be jealous of me?
