IO C ' ERO........
Anche quest'anno a S. Andrea Bagni ( Parma) nel contesto di (Storia
viva ) si e' svolta un'interessante manifestazione "IO C'ERO", ricca di
testimonianze collegate agli avvenimenti del secondo conflitto mondiale,
un modo diverso per celebrare la ricorrenza del 25 Aprile.
Nei due giorni della manifestazione, oltre ad accurate ricostruzioni
dinamiche ed all'esposizione di cimeli originali dell'epoca,alla
partecipazione di veterani brasiliani, si e' avuta la straordinaria
presenza di uno degli operatori della mitica " Rover Joe " ( AN/VRC-1 )
Paul D Bennett Jr WD5DRR, giunto appositamente dagli Stati Uniti a 64
anni dalla sua ultima presenza in Italia durante il secondo conflitto
mondiale. WD5DRR era in compagnia di Steve Gomez KE5O paracadutista,
Barnett Singleton KB5SY e di William George W5DUB dottore.
Mettersi in contatto WD5DRR, dopo tanti anni e partendo da un foglio di
servizio del novembre 1944, e' stato un vero esercizio di pazienza che
ha veramente impegnato l'Associazione "Rover Joe" ( www.roverjoe.com ).
Chi era Rover Joe ? Era il nickname che definiva il mezzo AN/VRC-1,
utilizzato per il coordinamento degli interventi dell'aviazione lungo la
prima linea, raccordando le azioni di terra e quelle aeree, tecnica per
il periodo assolutamente innovativa. Le apparecchiature erano
installate su una Jeep Willys e consistevano in un set HF (BC312 +
SCR191) ed un set sulle frequenze utilizzate dai mezzi aerei dell'epoca.
Condizioni di lavoro estremamente pericolose in quanto il mezzo era
costantemente impegnato oltre la prima linea, con il pericolo di essere
oggetto anche delle attenzioni del cosiddetto fuoco amico.
Tra i mezzi esposti , oltre a numerosi esemplari di Willys tutti
perfettamente conservati e restaurati per gli appassionati di
radiocomunicazioni, da segnalare il GMC a tre assi con shelter radio
completamente attrezzato e funzionante, nonche' il suo gruppo
elettrogeno originale a rimorchio del mezzo, il suo fratello minore GMC
a due assi completo di apparecchiature HF high power ed un originale
carro-assistenza radio sempre montato su autocarro a tre assi. Numerose
le apparecchiature radio del periodo bellico, divise indossate da
"rievocatori storici", armamenti ed utensili tipici della vita militare,
nonche' i resti di un trimotore SM79 precipitato nel 1944 e recuperato
lo scorso dall'Associazione Tracce di Storia ( www.traccedistoria.it)
completavano la mostra.
E' doveroso segnalare che l'organizzazione e' stata curata
dall'Associazione Rover Joe coordinata da Alberto- IZ4LWV, in
collaborazione con l'Associazione Storico Culturale "Tracce di Storia"
ed il Club "Ruote a Raggi ".

Even this year in St. Andrea Bagni (Parma) in the context of (living
history) was an interesting event I was full of testimonies related to
the events of the Second World War, a different way to celebrate the
anniversary of 25 April.
Within two days of the event, in addition to accurate reconstructions
and dynamic exposure of relics of the original, to the participation of
Brazilian veteran, took the extraordinary presence of one of the
operators of the legendary "Rover Joe" (AN/VRC-1 ) Paul D Bennett Jr -
WD5DRR, came specially from the United States 64 years after his last
presence in Italy during the Second World War. WD5DRR was in the company
of Steve Gomez KE5O paratrooper, Barnett and Singleton KB5SY William
George W5DUB doctor.
WD5DRR get in touch after so many years and starting from a sheet of
service in November 1944, was a real exercise in patience that has
really engaged the group "Rover Joe" (www.roverjoe.com).
Who was Joe Rover? It was the nickname that defined the mobile equipment
for radio-comunication AN/VRC-1 used for the coordination of aviation
on the front line, connected to the actions of earth or air, the
technical term for quite innovative. The equipment was mounted on a
Willys Jeep and consisted of a set HF (BC312 + SCR191) and a set of
frequencies used by aircraft at the time. Working conditions extremely
dangerous as the half was consistently committed over the first line,
with the danger of being subject of attention of the so-called fire
friend.
Among the media exposure, as well as numerous examples of Willys all
perfectly preserved and restored for amateur radio, to be reported to
the GMC three shelters with radio-equipped and fully functional as well
as' the generator to the original trailer for the vessel, the His
younger brother GMC on two HF equipment with high power and an original
car-care radio mounted on truck with three axles. Several radio
equipment of war, uniforms worn by "historical" weapons and tools
typical of military life as well as' the remains of a three SM79 crashed
in 1944 and recovered last by Footprints of History (www.traccedistoria.
en) completed the exhibition.
E 'should be noted that the organization has been curated by Joe Rover
coordinated by Alberto-IZ4LWV, in collaboration with the Associazione
Culturale Town "Footprints of History" and the Club "Wheels Rays.
