Re Win7, I find it is just another close version of Vista. I reckon
also that if XP was to be invented tomorrow, folk would say it's the BEST
VERSION MICROSOFT OPERATING SYSTEM EVER!!
I don't know why folk herald new systems as best ever, just as they did
with Vista, but now put it down down in big heaps.
Why do I prefer XP?, well it runs a lot of programs that I have
paid good money for, but now these either jack up completely, or only do
limited action. These include:

NERO that came with the Burner no go at all

ASHAMPOO WIN OPTIMISER Won't correct registry. A NO NO by the win7

REGISTRY MECHANIC same as above

SPYWARE DOCTOR same as above Win7 has its own weird
protection

Other things I don't like is its weird backup system. A poor substitute
for MS Backup

Its tyringly slow disc defragmenter.

Having to go into search to find hidden programs like RESTORE

Re packet I got it going by just dumping a working version onto the hard
disc from a CD. Maybe I could have tried an XP compatibility mode, but it
just illustrates the nastiness of Win7
Maybe I am old fashioned too, but my XP as setup on 3 computers,
including a laptop, is set for CLASSIC 98 appearance with a full page of
icons for most of frequently used programs, Instead of the slow MS way of
going to Start or Search grrr
Also what am I to do with my $1800 XP laptop. You can't update XP
to WIN7 So if I format the hard drive, will the mother board drivers etc
work with 7? Probably not. Thow it out and buy another?
This sort of non compatibility, does not go down in my book as progress
and I can see in a couple of years time when a new MS operating system
comes out they will say again. Wow this is so much better than that WIN7
thing we earlier heralded, as great!!??
Oh well back into my straight jacket!
