Hi Andy and all,
"He was calling on Channel 9, Old Shep needed a vet and I gave him
directions."
Shep wasn't on Channel 9, he was on AM radio so please don't confuse
WOR-TV with WOR Radio 710 in New York. His callsign was K2ORS and worked
CW excluseively, quite a personality regardless of the band and speaking
of which quite often related Amateur Radio stories on his late light
program on WOR. As for the vet, yes, he was a vet and often related Army
stories too.
Eh, quite the name dropper you are Andy but you really should have some
familiarity with the names you drop. You're way off the mark with Walter
Cronkite and not even on the same range with Gene Shepherd, ever hear of
Google?
