I never said it didn't

That's your paraphrasing of what it actually did say. It specifically
mentioned only being able to download to screen or printer. It didn't say
just bung the whole lot on any old webserver and let anyone download the
whole file.

> the americans laugh at all this

The Americans also have violent gun crime and terrible gang culture, should
we have them too just because the Americans have them?

A personal opinion you are entitled to.

Indeed they do. Tell me how do I download a speadsheet containing all the
calls? The FCC online service is how most would expect it to work, you
enter a call and it gives you the details. Or you enter some details and it
gives you the call. I can't see any way to just grab everything like we can
with your offering.

> the rsgb are very upset about the dpa issues

They claim to be. Really they are annoyed that a big earner has come to an
end. They're a business, they've every right to be annoyed. They don't have
the right to limit the spread of the data just because it affects their
business model. The world has changed RSGB. Move on and find a new way of
making money.

> yet they sell the callbook every year

Indeed they do. Perhaps you can explain why that's allowed?

Ian, I know you're not stupid but you sure do act dumb with vengence at
times. The DPA applies to the data you got from Ofcom. Yet the first thing
you do is ignore the eighth principle of the DPA. That bans international
transfers unless it's to a member of European Economic Area. There are a
few other countries included with the EEA where the protection of data is
deemed 'adequate'. Argentina, Canada, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey and
Switzerland.

Note which country isn't on there... yes the USA. And where did you dump
your data? On a server in the USA. OK now some transfers are valid if the
company involved has signed up to the Safe Harbour agreements. Perhaps you
can tell us the name of the company that runs QSL.net and their Safe
Harbour registration status? You did check didn't you? You didn't just wang
up all that data onto a non-approved company's server and then smile at
everyone and say "Look shiny callbook for free, come and get it."

> so whos is right?

You've got some questions to answer.

Ian, it's good that you have freed the data so anyone can use it without
paying, though most used to copy the callbook CD from their mates. What a
shame you went and did a complete half-assed job of it when you done the
hard bit and got Ofcom to budge.
