In reply to Pete and Barry.

I am in the peculiar position of having a law against aerials where I live so was forced to abandon the fast, best packet programme, TPK which won't connect to the 'net and change to Winpack.

While I was running TPK and a couple of programmes before it, I did one very simple thing. I left digi ON and put my details on the automatic ID.Very easy to do and no big brain needed to do it, anyone can turn Digi ON and, despite what I have been told, a digipeater will allow progammes like TPK to collect unproto headers and use them to keep the list up to date.

We did have a long discussion once about the cost of leaving a computer on full time along with it's rigs. I never found it cost me much to run that way.

It did get used, I heard the clicks of it's relay when someone was going through me. Probably some poor soul who could not get a direct connection to a BBS.

Bottom line. Why not just turn your digi and beacon on ? It just might keep someone on air without having to use Telnet, especially in a small country like England,

My PC back then was not big enough to run FBB 5.15 or I would have given it a try BTW.
