OFCOM

Ref- 1-42039751

23 January 2008

Mr Ian Abel

BY EMAIL: g3zhi@hotmaii.com

Dear Mr Abel

Freedom of Information: Right to know request

Thank you for your email requesting information on the cost of UK callbook data
from Ofcom.

We received your request on 3 January. 2008 and I have dealt with it under the
Freedom of
Information Act 2000 the "Act".

I am writing to advise you that Ofcom does not currently sell the UK callbook
data.

It is provided to the Radio Society of great Britain with the consent of the
radio amateurs and published annually. Whilst we have passed on the data to
bona fide, recognised publishers, we feel it would not be in the reasonable
contemplation of those who have provided data that
their information would be passed on to other parties, To provide you with the
data would
involve Ofcom re-obtaining the consent of all of the amateur radio licensees
who have
previously agreed to have their personal data published in a callbook.

Furthermore, Ofcom is withholding the information as it falls under the
exemption in section 40
of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, which relates to personal information
and which
provides that such information is exempt for the purposes of the Act.

Section 40 is an absolute exemption under the Act and does not require a public
interest test.

If you have any further queries. please let me know. above in any future
correspondence.

Yours sincerely

Jonny Ayres
