Hi Dave and all,
I should know better than to judge a book by its cover, I thought yours
would be an interesting bull. Uh uh, just another "decline of packet
retread" but what the 'eck, I'll have a go.
You can count me one of the "full time daily users" with VK2 citizenship
but does that make a significant difference? Not to me, with a few
national, regional and interest specific exceptions I read the same stuff
on NJ2AR while I still had an antenna. So now we get to the meat of the
matter, what's so interesting about a packet BBS? CONTENT my friend, just
like any internet forum it's all in the content, what you read is what
you get. Some are interesting and therefore attractive with a large
number of users while some are not and don't forget that transmitters are
not receivers, the number of originating bulls is no indication of actual
usage. We've been all over this many times before so that's just my
tuppence worth, I'll waste no more time on the subject <BORING> as you
all have better things to do than listen to a broken record.
As for security concerns there is SO much you don't know so please learn
the background before you start a subject and come up short and foolish.
There is more to security than locking out one or a few troublesome
users, to quote the demon "we are legion". I'll not dwell on this subject
either, rather give you time to examine what is involved in running a
BBS, it ain't so simple there mate.
