Subject: [wsjtgroup] EL58 Dxpedition MS Skeds now being made

A group from Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana have scheduled a trip to
activate EL58 on 6m only from 17:00 Friday May 29th through 17:00 Sunday
June 1st to assist those needing the rare grid. The special call, K5N has
been applied for and received. A scouting party has selected a good
location and being well away from everything, we should have very good
ground gain over water or sand and low QRN. We will have two stations set
up and operators to man them around the clock. Each station will be running
170W with 6M5X's at 30-35 feet. Our full six character grid will be EL58hx.

While the primary activation will center on E's, we will have WSJT set up on
both stations. I am notifying the WSJTGroup and the Digital on Six group
that we are currently making 6m MS skeds for the hours that E's will most
likely not be around. Skeds from 9 PM to 9 AM local time (0200 - 1400 UTC)
are now being taken. We plan on running the primary FSK441 station up a
little higher that normal (50.315) so as not to interfere with the SSB/CW
station in the lower part of the band if E's run later into the night or
start early in the mornings. The two stations and antennas will be spaced
far enough apart to allow for that. K5N, being a rover/portable, will be on
1st sequence regardless of direction for all runs. MS runs out to 1100-1200
miles or so should be relatively easy.

Tip, WA5UFH has graciously posted the K5N daily updated sked sheet on the
EL58 pages with the WSJTGroup site. The link is: http://www.ykc
com/wa5ufh/EL58/EL58hx.htm I ask that you please review the on-line sheet
and then submit 2-3 prioritized times to my n5six@bellsouth.net box.
Hopefully that will cut down on the "pending" email back and forth game.
Skeds will be make on first come, first serve basis. We can of course move
up or down a few KHz if you happen to have a bird or QRN on 50.315. Some
have said they would like to have second, backup sked, in case of bad
weather, etc. during the time of the main one. Please let us book all with
a single sked first and we can then work on second requests.

Skeds will be for 30 minutes starting at the top or bottom of each hour. We
will be able to utilize the other station for additional slots or randoms
late night through early AM (tentative 0500 to 1200 UTC) if demand is enough
The primary ms station will use 50.315 MHz, FSK441 with SH's on as default
mode. The secondary is planned to be on 50.240 MHz. I will try to book the
primary 50.315 station sheet up first before moving to the secondary.

K5N will use offset calling on all 50.260 CQ's. The primary station CQ
would be "CQ 315 K5N" and the secondary "CQ 240 K5N". If a CQ is decoded,
call on the given up or down freq given and we will work on the Up or Down
freq simplex. One or both will CQ when not actively running skeds or
working those tail ending a sked. Tail ender's are welcome but be aware we
will have to move to the next sked at the top or bottom of the hour. During
the day, the primary digi station will run low power JT6M or PSK31 (50.290)
to probe the ether. Due to the remote location, be aware we will may or may
not have good internet service, if at all, but several will be spotting us
on Ping Jockey and other loggers.

With two overnight sessions with up to about 70 potential slots, we should
be able to accommodate most, if not all, those requesting a sked. For those
close to EL58, we can either arrange to run back scatter MS or a JT65B tropo
run (good for 400-500 miles at least). The SSB/CW operators will also
entertain late evening or early morning tropo or SSB/CW MS tries.

There is the potential for a lot of requests so please bare with us as we
work things through and confirm them. We will updated the group as needed
up to the day of departure.

Bill-K5YG, Al-WA4EWV, Bruce-N5SIX, Bob-WN2E, Danny-N5OMG and Daniel-KE5KDM
