weather forecasters & Gestures.
Gestures; as in arm waving and attracting attention; have YOU seen?
FAST talking, as in breakneck, without breathing IN? They are ALL -
at it! Yet, how to say RAIN, succinctly, using MORE words?
IT, is coming to YOU - pantomine weather presents - different rain!
News presenters, are immune; but house expert commentator, is NOT!
He/she is no sooner introduced, than both hands start to agitate;
ATTENTION, watch my hands? Hands are 10 a pair, I have such and am
not interested in another pair, flickering about. Will it RAIN?
There is no let up to the arm/hand & fingers antics - body postures
also come into it but, short of dance steps. How far is this panto
going to venture, before an indication comes to me - will it RAIN?
Wooden and animated, are rarely taken to extra lengths - they draw
attention, on their own. Rain, shine; is to the point, and amply
invests the viewer with the weather situation - should there be a
requirement, for more precise detail; this is also catered for,
BUT there won't be any singing and dancing, just lots of detail!
A thought? is this a move to co-ordinate and bring together -
weather, for the hearing and the deaf, as a trial, economy measure?
Surely lip reading inclusive; and I begin to see some point to this
although, there are problematic requirements which will stretch the
weather presenters skills.
.. there is only so much we can reasonably expect from a weather
forecaster - it was more than adequate as it was, short, to the
point. To the point .. because another version of the same, for the
Region, has also to get its airing from our Regional forecaster?
TeleText can offer Weather too, just trigger the buttons?
It is apparent that a Trainer post for Weather Forecasters, is a must!
Salary for the post cannot be viewed as minor, nor incorporated into
current experts briefs - this will be an important NEW refinement,
presentation, and will enlarge the current sodden aspects, needing
adequate tweaking.
How to resist this enhancement - is only too clear!
