Ordinarily, I think that a 'wheelie bin' collector is part of some strange
custom, because in the Land of Oz they only collect the contents, and not
the bin.
However, we now have 'wheelie bin' collectors in these parts. Once upon a
fairy tale, householders in the Kempsey Shire had but a single 'wheelie
bin' but not so any more, they have three, each with a different coloured
lid reflecting the purpose of that bin. There's your standard 240l with a
green lid, for green waste; a 240l bin with a yellow lid for recyclables;
and a 120l bin with a red lid for "other" waste. But it gets worse. Some
bins are emptied weekly whilst others are emptied fortnightly so you must
not only remember which bin to leave out but also the week/fornight it is
emptied. It that kind of lunacy that makes me glad I don't have their
expensive garbage service, and that we do our own recycling.
As for the 'wheelie bins' being collected, as distinct from the contents,
the council has a team of sub-contractors - from another state, 1500km
away - collecting the original 'wheelie bins' so they can be scrapped.
Surely it would have made more sense to just change the lids. The wheels
of (local) government turn in mysterious ways.
