.. daffy's were all closed up tight on that Monday past; ..
except'n 'one'; I saw it right away; it was on a corner, had just
opened, and maybe a sparrow'd clung to it, just for a moment.
It had collapsed under the weight of that sparrow .. n'it lay flat
on the earth? Nothin' to be done, the internals of the stalk were
ruptured; it would live, but it wouldn't stand up again.
.. it din't rain, so it lasted all the week, but on Sunday, it was
past it: I would lift it then .. come the Monday!
Blamin' the sparrow aint doin any good; it coulda bin after
an insect, n'food comes first. Times, it's all these unknowin',
an thir aint no undoin' whits bin done....
I would have takin it inhouse, had it bin able; .. standin'?

30 - 40 years since the family said Goodbye to the City -
their voyage was long, but it was to be a new life to look forward to.
He never said whether he was going to a job; and I never thought to
ask him neither, not at the time. As it happens, he had a skill
in great demand so that was one concern taken care off; a house
closely followed, needs must and then schooling for the bairns?
40 years passed before the thought emerges, attractive,
"twould be nice to see the auld Reekie again, would it not?"
The kids that were; now have families of their own, jobs to be
considered too - maybe later on then; we could decide for now?
Preparing the way as it were? I remember when ...
.. there is a wee problem making appearance, that might concern?
"Do you remember these nice folk we met on holiday, last year,
when we went on to Victoria?" "Last year? that was the year before
last, wasn't it?" ".. so it was, silly me!" ....
A Moment; can I interrupt you .. please?
Take yourselves back 40 years, just before you sailed .... ?
The CITY you remember, will always remember you both - but these
intervening years added to your count, have also to be added, to
the City? There has been a deal of activity .. about town.
The tenement you left behind, hasn't been standing these last 30 or
more years - it was in a redeveloped area. All of it ......
You were trying to find a number of places on Google last week, but
you ended up, not being able to find them? It's no use going back,
trying to find these places, these sights, of yesteryear .. they were
pulled down many years ago, didn't want to let on to you, at the time!
Remember, the Palais, Plaza, Locarno? New Victoria, Regal, Embassy,
Astoria? What about, Coop branches over the city, Palladium Theatre,
.. still, the Castle, it is still there! ALL the others, .. Kaputt!
The 'Sights of the City' booklet has had a number of reprints,
some of our Older ones were missing, so a few New ones, have had a
more prominent promotion?
Have you got all your own teeth.. ? Our missing spots in the City,
had need for renewal too, and they were gradually replaced; you
weren't here at the time.
