Too right - Although I wonder how much "clout" they'll have and whether
this is a personal thing or something the record company has started.

It's a very grey area - certainly in my experience with radio commercials,
you can't use any music without permission (regardless of copyright
payments being made).  The same goes for sound-alike voices (this excludes
the dead, btw).

Artists/groups can usually negotiate clauses in their contracts if they
have firm believes or do not wish their music to be associated with a
particular brand/product.  Paul McCartney and Bernard Matthews are a good
example of 2 entities that wouldn't do business!

I wonder how much D:Ream got when (New) Labour used "Things Can Only Get
Better" for their election campaign...
