Glenn, and whoever else shows up.
We hope everyone had a safe holiday this past
weekend. Our final net holidays will be during
the US Thanksgiving Week, then Christmas and
New Years Week...so, you have to put up with
us for awhile (hi hi).
We finally got some much needed rain Thursday
night and Friday morning, but it only lowered
the burn bans for a few counties in northern
Arkansas, as high fire danger remains, along
with heat advisories. Some models are showing
cooler weather soon; the autumnal equinox is
this coming weekend.
I went out to the Open House at the National
Weather Service office on Saturday. We gave
out several flyers telling about ham radio,
and info on Ham Test Online, plus my QSL card
with contact info. We were under a tent, but I
got moderately sunburned on my neck and hands.
We had to shut down 2 hours early, due to
approaching thunderstorms.
I got medical visits with my eye doctor, foot
doctor, and heart doctor out of the way last
week, and I'm to see the urologist tomorrow (I
hope she trimmed her fingernails, and that her
hands aren't cold (hi hi)). I have had minor
chest pain since the Huntsville trip last month
(the bus seat belts were very tight, and the
arthritis pain is spreading), so I'm having a
chemical stress test and an echocardiogram done
on Oct. 26, so Bob (NY) will take the net for
me that night. But, I thought a stress test was
sitting for 3 hours in the doctors waiting room
or the Emergency Room to be seen (hi hi).
I added QSO One to my smartphone and desktop
computer, and really like the portability of
the ham radio apps. It means you don't have
to lug a bunch of equipment on a vacation to
a big hamfest. I already started looking at
combination air/hotel stays to Huntsville
next year, and a friend will have to help me
with the funding. I don't see how folks can
afford to travel nowadays.

GE All.
It was a busy week! The YL's daughter was
married on Saturday. I was assigned to
indentured servitude hauling stuff to and
setting up the wedding site. It all worked
out - beautiful wedding - now I'm going to
sleep for the next 3 days!!
The PI node running linbpq is behaving pretty
well. I had one niggle with the USB serial
port adapter. I originally had it plugged
into a USB3 port. It would disappear after
about 18 hours. I read all kinds of things
with most solutions claiming I didn't have
enough power supply. I didn't quite buy that,
so kept looking. I finally ran across a
comment saying "if you're plugged into USB3,
try USB2" - voila! been solid for the past
week now.

Bob, first, you need your own type of slumber
honeymoon...I did that myself much of today,
after spending much of yesterday doing the
QCWA audio transcript for HandiHams.
A fellow ham told me how to turn off the
scrolling badge that a fellow ham had gifted
me at the Huntsville Hamfest. You press the
top bluetooth button twice, then press it
a single time to turn it off. I programmed
different settings, including reminders of
what day of the week it is, and what net
I'm supposed to run!!

The last couple of weeks have been the same
old grind, however my wife and dog went to
Alexandria Bay, NY (east of Lake Ontario)
on the ST Lawrence River... Very Nice
area... we took a "detour" to Kingston,
Ontario for the day.
A few weeks ago, about 15 miles as the crow
flies, a waterspout came ashore as a F1
tornado... That was "exciting" for them...
not.... Very unusual for Long Island...
Otherwise, all is well in the world (well,
that a falsity, but we don't talk politics
here).

Wayne, first, FB on the trip. I saw a video
awhile back off of a South Carolina Beach,
where a waterspout came ashore, and became
a tornado. Beach furniture, umbrellas, ice
chests, etc., went flying. Not sure if
anyone was hurt.

Week started out slow and ended in a flurry
but still got nothing done.
I started to get long wire up but then it
got hot again so I have line up but no wire.
We got .6" rain on Sat. that was all we got,
but it was sorely needed.
I did not make it to Queen Wilhelmina State
park due to local club business meeting.
Not a whole lot other than that. BTU >>>

Scott, I didn't make Mena, either...I was at
the NWS Open House, as noted earlier. Most
areas got 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches of rain late
last week.
I've seen several long range winter forecast
models, that are calling for significant
weather here this winter...that ranges from
nothing, to a tornado outbreak, to a major
ice storm. Just look at the weather rock,
and roll the weather dice.

GE All on the net. Had a pretty good week,
except for posting the quarterly income tax
payments today. Anyway, got that and all the
regular bills taken care of.
I finally took the plunge, and officially
joined the local NTS section net as a traffic
handler. Spent some time writing software to
help me format and archive messages. Have
handled a couple of messages so far, and am
able to get good enough coverage with my
long wire to be useful.
Need to get back to the EGGNogs antennas,
that got pushed to the side for a while.
Also, got a trip scheduled to Disneyland for
October 10 through 14, so looking forward to
that. It has been a while since I have seen
my "pal" Mickey (hi hi).
I totally slept through the local weather net
the first week of September, so I now have an
alarm set on my phone for the next one. I have
a tendency to take a nap in the afternoon
whether I want to or not!
Getting old, I guess :-)

Evening Gents
Having some nice weather here in PA for a change.
We have had some nasty storms here this summer.
Finally ported my BPQ from the Rpi4 to a 64bit
AMD PC running Linux Mint. It is setup headless
and having good backups made the move pretty easy.
Also submitted an article to QST about the TPRFN
network last week; waiting to see if it makes the
grade!
Getting ready for this months PKTNET that start
this coming Sunday.
