Hi All,

During the recent heat wave in VK3 there were problems with the
electricity supply. This was mainly due to the combined effect of the much
greater load due to air-conditioning and the heat stress placed on the
infrastructure.

In a street near my QTH a sub distribution power transformer caught fire.
These transformers are located all over the place and convert the 1200
volt local feeder voltage or thereabouts to the consumer distribution
voltage of 230V.
What is of interest is that a helpfull citizen is busy hosing things down,
but as far as I can tell from looking at the photo the isolators have not
dropped out and presumably everything is still "hot" in the electrical
sense.

I presume it is just the cooling oil that has caught fire and vented at
that point in time.

There is an old homily about "fools rush in" ......
