Hi Ray and others,

I wasn't worried about "spontaneous" combustion so much as just simple
fire risk from badly overheated components.

I certainly agree that well designed commercial equipment should not
suffer much performance degradation when operating around the 50 degree C
mark and wrote similar figures into many specifications.

The problem is that most of the computer stuff these days is not designed
to meet specifications for elevated temperatures. Most of it is specified
in the 0 degrees to 40 degrees range for air-conditioned office use and
operating above that invites problems particularly in the power supply
area.

The outside thermometer showed a temperature around 120F (an old style
gauge) and nearby was a very spectacular power pole transformer fire. The
shack temperature reached 47.5 C on the new digital thermometer

Will send a copy of the photos as soon as I reduce them to packet size.

                                   Regards Tony
