GE All, and welcome to the Aug 3 2026 PCL Net.
Early check-in from Endaf, N6UTC.
Net order is Daryl, Wayne, Scott, Carl, Charley,
Bob (NY), Glenn, and whoever else shows up.
Our next net holiday is Labor Day, Monday,
September 7. The PCL Net will take that night
off. Then, no more net holidays until
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.
Well, I thought the bad luck bug had bit me again
this morning. I was all set to head to the Post
Office to get my new cellphone, get some envelopes,
and stamps, and to renew my Post Office Box for 6
months. Then, the H.A.M. Haven't Any Memory deal
hit...and I thought "How am I going to call Lyft
without a phone??".
I thought my ham radio friend (who's normally my
ride) would be tied up all week, so I sent him a
message, and went back to bed, thinking "still no
phone, and there go the hamfest trips".
Thankfully, he came by today, and we took care of
the Post Office Business. I also went to the bank
to get some money for the hamfest in Shreveport on
Saturday. I've spent the afternoon getting the new
phone activated, and the apps restored...it'll take
a few days to finish all that. But, at least I have
a cellphone again after 3 weeks.
A cold front went through over the weekend, bringing
strong storms to northeast Arkansas, but nothing here.
There is a chance of scattered storms on Friday, but
only isolated storms for Saturday. I hope there's good
weather for the hamfest trip. Otherwise, the summer
heat continues.
I got the new issue of the QCWA Journal, but I likely
won't start on the audio transcript until the morning.
I'm going to take Lyft to a local ham radio meeting
Thursday night, and they are still having issues with
the repeaters. I did get approval to start a new net
on Tuesday nights, but I can't do it until the repeaters
get fixed...never mind not being able to do Arkansas
Skywarn until they get fixed.
I got my D-Rats station back up, so folks can contact
me that way as well, and send/receive files. I'm glad
it's on the same computer, as the one I'm doing nets on.

GE Daryl and the rest of the Netters (is that a thing??).
Week was busy, pick up a programming gig for a client
that I already created a major Access db. Now they wanted
a MySQL (Mariadb) internet read-only copy for their clients.
Extremely hot, wet, humid week, and more of this weather
for next 10 days or so... For joy....
Probably going to Alexandria Bay in early September for
4 or 5 days..
Got all our repeaters (5) working... solved our telemetry
issue that ECR was "complaining about"...
Now we just have to get club members and others to use the
darn repeaters...
Otherwise, that's about it....

Wayne, it's either Netters, Netizens, or Hamsters (hi hi).
Bummer on the programming change and the weather...but,
it is summer.
I hope you can get that vacation, and it's a bummer about
the repeaters not being used. They used to get usage during
morning and afternoon drive time as well as nets...but now,
they just get usage during nets...and the rest of the time,
they're basically dead. Yet, most all area repeater pairs
are taken.

GE all on the Net, thanks to Bob for the venue... Week was
less busy but only by a bit.
I got the BPQ Running again. it was in the dreaded crash
loop...finally got an updated version to install and it fixed
that issue.
Only about 2 weeks until Huntsville, AL Hamfest yeah! should
be a good show.
The cooler weather is nice, but man we could sure use some
rain. Only .4" since June 22nd, so it is crispy dry here.
Glad to be back on the net.
OH Wayne, just call CQ CQ CQ Repeater on the repeaters. Sure
fire way to get traffic going >>>

Scott, bummer on the dreaded crash loop, but glad you got that
fixed. I'll be at the Quarter Century Wireless Association
table, next to Dealer Hospitality, and the Youth Lounge...but,
I'll be doing a forum at 12 Noon on Saturday, in the Monte
Sano room of the adjacent Embassy Suites hotel.
The heat will be back...mid to late August is Arkansas' hottest
part of the year.
The dry weather is increasing the fire danger, but it keeps the
grass from growing, saving money in lawn mowing costs.

GE All. My week was pretty much a week.
Been messing with satellite tracking software in hopes of starting
some satellite work. Listened a bit for the ISS yesterday, but did
not hear any APRS from it. Not sure if my antenna is really right
for satellites ... need to work on that.
Also working on my portable setup; need to get out to one of the
local hills and see if that helps me hit some of the further
repeaters. Also need to try out my Radioddity vertical setup.
Otherwise just plugging along. I vote to be a "Hamster."

Carl, Scott, KA7FVV, does a bunch of satellite related ham radio
work. I did find some new APRS groups on the internet, that I can
use the APRSIS32 program to checkin to.

long time no net, been on road or in middle of something during
net time many weeks
Daryl and Scott, plan to be at Huntsville hamfest also. Brother
lives in Georgia, and Huntsville not much out of the way to see
him. Good excuse anyhow. Was there first time last year and
impressed, good festival.
Carl, we will return Arizona possibly October or December, not
firm yet on date. Usually not firm on travel dates until maybe
couple days in advance. Huntsville and Georgia bit different
Been learning some about satellite and have listened to ISS few
times but not yet decoded any messages
Daryl and Bob thanks fellows for keeping net going, always fun

Sorry for being late Daryl - was tied up with some other stuff.
Repeaters are sad. There are no free pairs here in Rochester on
2M or 440, yet there's only any traffic on 2 and half of them...
I hear more activity on the 3 GMRS repeaters we have.
Still chasing APRS on ISS and a satellite named SONATE-2. They're
both hard to hear nowadays. Especially since ISS moved to UHF.
I use the Pinpoint APRS program. Discovered over the weekend that
it does voice announcements of calls, but it was using the same
audio channel Sound-modem uses!! That seems like a mistake!
Anyway I have it fixed now.
One of my other activities is playing guitar with an old time
fiddle group. We had a gig at a senior living facility on Saturday.
That was fun.

Bob, better late than never. There is life outside of ham radio,
although some would consider that as heresy. You won't be put in
detention for being tardy (hi hi).
Some of the local repeaters have had bad antenna and receive
issues for several months. It makes no sense to link up the
system to other repeaters, as they can hear us, but we can't
hear them. We could've used that for Skywarn operations during
the first part of the year. I'm going to the club meeting on
Thursday, to hopefully get an update. I also have prepared a
training net on good amateur practice, with some ham radio
trivia thrown in for good measure. But, until the repeaters
get fixed (the noise floor is on the ceiling), there's no point
in it.
As noted, I found some other APRS groups on the internet that I
can check-in to, via the APRSIS32 program. Glad you got the
glitch with Sound-Modem fixed.
FB on the fiddling deal, so you weren't just "fiddling around"
(hi hi).
Never did get started with HamWord.

Evening everyone, it has been awhile since I have been here
also, but nice to see you all in here tonight.
Have been busy with work and with the TPRFN Network there
are some cool things happening there.
Our local hamfest is this Sunday, and our ARES RACES group
for which I am EC is having the kick off of our 180 degree
change in direction and it has really sparked the interest
with our members.
I was invited to speak at the Zero Retries Digital Convention
in California in October, but my niece is getting married that
same weekend..
Been testing with the new Mercury modem here with BPQ. It's
working, but they have a large hill to climb to get even close
to what VARA HF can do..

A tip for working the Satellites and ISS... if using a Vertical
Antenna, focus on the lower closer to Horizon passes... say 25
degrees, to 45-50 degrees. The vertical will have a null straight
overhead, and your signal will have trouble reaching the bird...
The lower take off angle of the vertical will work better on the
low angle passes. BTU >>>

FB Carl, we get another eyeball qso eventually. Scott, FB
on vertical antenna tip. Had not considered the directly
overhead null. Re local repeater activity our Greenville
TLARC non networked repeater fairly active. Nixa club has
one of their 14 networked repeaters local in Branson and
network if fairly active. Also Green Forest AR nearby linked
to some other area repeaters fairly active. Often travelling
get on local repeater, and no one comes back to my id,
sometimes go all day monitoring and no activity
