Hello everyone,
This e-mail is long enough, then sit and read calmly and carefully with prayer
to give wide dissemination.

Basic idea

As in all projects easy or complex that there is always a basic idea on which
to start here and we'll see what it is. Now the spread of the D-Star in Italy,
thanks to the efforts by Gianluca IZ3CLG and his team, beginning to be even
struggling, the most extensive possible. In other countries the coverage of the
territory has more speed than Italy, but this is only a problem of difficult
mental innovation in the field radio. In other countries, OM bought the Digital
Camera but also the IC-2820, in Italy, OM bought the Digital Camera but still
only HF and maybe to rube RTX. It 'just the "mindset" that is different but I
can not / can not do anything, but at least we try to revive the "dead".
Returning to the idea. While everyone is looking for accreditation merits for
having added a variable in the script dplus (it is just one example), we who
have the spirit of fair radio experimenters, we bring some "galaxy" later,
trying to bring as many people as possible the D-Star. To do this in addition
to the convention that always gather some proselytes, we must act on the ground
and I intend to base the packet radio, which in some ways was the predecessor
of D-Star. The idea then was to integrate the data network D-Star (DD) with the
packet radio. Also to help those who already possess the TNC and a packet
network active for years now, this project could be important, but not only,
could be the right input to move to D-Star saw its potential.
I also come from packet radio, but now after so many years I have "arruginito,"
and I asked the support of Marco IW2OHX, which for nearly a decade with
dedication and professionalism, keep standing and packet core network and the
first in Piemonte and now in Lombardy. Obviously, the applause for his ongoing
commitment. Then explained the idea of integration we see the next steps.

The DD

As has been said many times in the past, the amateur is not an ISP it a WISP,
then forget now to move on internet radio network DD advantage of a 128K.
Because we use amateur radio services reserved to us, so we set up the classic
"old" packet with some additions ... we say technology. The configuration
parameters to use all the services they give in, but you need to configure your
network card connected to their 1 and the same ID-1 as follows:

Windows network adapter

Go to the My Network click with the right mouse button, then properties, in
Icon Local Area Connection econ always click the right mouse button again
Properties. In the properties 2 times click on Internet Protocol (TCP / IP),
will open a new window. Generally, if you are connected to the Internet you
automatically get an IP address stamped, if found inside IP addresses copy its
because then you'll need to go back. Now endorsed Use the following IP address
and put:

IP address (your IP found in that) for example 44,134,165,170 (this is my)
Subnet mask of 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway 44,134,165,130 (if you connect via ID-1 to IQ2GM)
Date OK and you are affixed.

Now go to Start-> Run and type cmd.exe
This will open a terminal window and type (if connected with the ID-1) ping
44,134,165,130 you should have a response of this kind
PING 44,134,165,130 (44,134,165,130) 56 (84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 44,134,165,130: icmp_seq = 1 ttl = 64 time = 62.7 ms
64 bytes from 44,134,165,130: icmp_seq = 2 ttl = 64 time = 62.7 ms
64 bytes from 44,134,165,130: icmp_seq = 3 ttl = 64 time = 62.8 ms
64 bytes from 44,134,165,130: icmp_seq = 4 ttl = 64 time = 63.0 ms
64 bytes from 44,134,165,130: icmp_seq = 5 ttl = 64 time = 62.6 ms

44,134,165,130 ping statistics --- ---
6 packets transmitted, 5 received, 16% packet loss, time 5014ms
rtt min / avg / max / mdev = 62.636/62.824/63.098/0.160 ms

This indicates that everything is going right and you're ready to take
advantage of services.

Linux network adapter

much simpler configuration of the network adapter for Linux:

from terminal window type sudo ifconfig eth0 (or eth1) your.ip up
for example sudo ifconfig eth0 44.134.165.170 up

Also from terminal sudo route add-net 44.0.0.0 / 8 gw 44,134,165,130 dev eth0
  (or eth1)
At this point, doing ping 44,134,165,130 get the above.

Configuration ID-1

The ID-1 set to go to 1298MHz DD simplex (not RPS) with the following
parameters:

UR IQ2GM
RPT1 none
RPT2 none
YOUR your call (for example IW2OAZ)

Now we're ready to use and configure the services.

Chat

A very interesting application that gives a tangible symbol of between Dstar
and Packet is surely chat. On the server D-Star has already deployed Jabber
server but makes only chat single or multi-windows, but not multiuser. The
client to use Pidgin which is found at this address
http://pidgin.im/download/windows/ configuration, you can see below:

Pidgin

Here can be achieved by colleagues in the network packet but a bit slow, due to
jumps and speed not standardized network packet.

Teamspeake

We also installed a chat server and multi VoIP is called Teamspeak. Here I must
make some clarifications.

What is Voice Over IP
If you think that your phone is the only way to communicate is better than to
start again, from a somewhat 'time is moving on network programs that can help
you talk with your Internet connection (in our case radio), the so-called voice
over IP. The most appreciated quality of these programs is that using the band
internet / radio is not subject to the payment of any fee and this phone,
especially for those who need to talk to people in foreign countries, namely by
only installing the program (I say this from personal experience)! A very
powerful and easy to use is certainly TeamSpeak 2, which uses a great
compression algorithm managing to reconcile an extraordinary quality of speech
to a minimal use of bandwidth, so even those who can not take advantage of
broadband can still succeed to get a good quality. TeamSpeak 2 is developed for
both Windows and Linux, is planning a new release of software in C + +
language, so that they can be available for MAC. The software is completely
free!

Where do I find?

Since most of you use Windows, download the first client that you find on this
page:
http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

Configuration

Attached is my screenshot that will help to configure. Note that for
certification through login and password you send me an e-mail.

Installed the program with its codec (if not already installed) we are ready to
run let us not be fooled the appearance simple, TeamSpeak is a very powerful
program.
Connection from the menu select Connect. At this point you open the window
Connect To Server data included here as in the screenshot.

Teamspeak

Now it is time to set in the most appropriate microphone and signal quality.
From the Settings menu choose Sound Input / Output Settings, in the Sound
Settings can choose the volume of speakers (or headphones) can choose whether
to flow with the push of a button (you can choose which one) or automatically,
in this case is Adjust the threshold for activating the microphone (careful not
to make too sensitive, or it may always remain active, with great joy of who
you are listening!). With the option Test Codec can hear the signal quality,
greater the kbits and the higher the quality (and hence the use of the
bandwidth will increase!). We choose Speex 3.4 in DD since we have only 128K .

One very nice TeamSpeak is the ability to record conversations (both of these
times the word privacy does not have much meaning) in saving it. Wav file on
your hard disk to do is simply select the menu option Start Recording Recording
and indicate the location where the file. Wav files will be saved, to end the
recording will simply select the menu option Stop Recording Recording;
attention, however, when register next to your nickname will appear the words
"rec" (so do not think that people do not know that recording!). Besides
talking, you can send text messages (chat) through the option Send Text Message
To Channel in the Channels menu opens a window to write the message then
appears in the window at the bottom of the TeamSpeak client (with this option,
the message will be read only in the channel where we are, to send a message
read in all channels option is to choose Send Text Message To All.

Here too we can make VoIP packet network that connects us but could lose some
package. So why do not all end up on a radio chat 100% both in private and
multi-channels with different? Our channel is the standard 134 but there are
others, however, users D-Star packet and now you can join the channel 134. To
do this it will introduce

XChat

Excellent multi-platform chat client (native Linux) that you can download from
this site http://www.xchat.org/windows/ who uses Linux (deserves a special
applause) http://www.xchat.org/files/source/ 2.8 /? S = D or those who use
debian write in the terminal sudo apt-get install xchat
Here is a screenshot for the configuration.

And as you can see in that screenshot are connected chatting on the network
packet with Xchat

Now the party packet that explains Marco IW2OHX with some screenshots.

Area packet

The area packet offers more or less the same services in Part Dstar, but with
the use of knots, or from the network dstar I can connect in Australia for
Australian BBS or other service simply by connecting the first node IQ2GM at
44,134. 165,129 and from there I choose, after access with login and password
to connect, in this case enclosed a copy paste of what I do from terminal (I am
a traditionalist):

telnet 44,134,165,130 7300

Hello IW2OAZ at 15.12.08 00:00:27 EST

VK3AC-5 (X) NET
Cmd: H, D (IGI), DX, N (ode), FBB

See? We arrived in Australia with 2 simple jumps.

To do the same things with Windows as I said before Marco explains how to do

Each of you must take the Flexnet32 as follows:

Where there 'IP Address must make: 44,134,165,130

Then you must configure and use paxon as Flexnet32 drivers:

Then connect to IQ2GM, selecting the door AXIP created earlier.

Port 1 -> internal connection with Linux. (C IQ2GM-7 meets LinuxNode);

Door 2 -> connection with OpenBCM (C IQ2GM-8 meets OpenBCM);
Port 4 -> Link FlexNet with IW2OHX-13;

Well now integrate the APRS network because unfortunately the ID-1 has no
chance of having a GPS connected, and then send its position only in TCP / IP.

Have fun and good D-Star/packet at all!

Special thanks to
Marco IW2OHX configurations for packet
Stefano IZ2DOB for testing DD
Ettore IZ2LRW for testing DD
Mauro IW2KVT DD for tests and to install hardware test
You all to be arrived at the end of this e-mail.
