N5VLZ:
GE All, and welcome to the Dec 15 2025 PCL
Net. Early checkin for Charley, NT5R.
Net order is Daryl, Eric, Bob (NY), Carl,
Rick, Mike, and whoever else shows up.
Our final PCL Net for the year is tonight.
We will be OFF the next 2 weeks, until
Jan. 5, 2026. We wish everyone a Merry
Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
There is a funny meme on Amateur Radio
Funnies. It shows a skinny ham, a medium
sized ham, and an overweight ham...next
to a table with a huge birthday cake. The
skinny ham is holding out his hand like
"keep that away from me". This is known as
RESISTANCE. The medium sized ham is slicing
off a piece of cake for his plate, and this
is known as INDUCTANCE. The overweight ham
(I resemble that remark!) looks like his
clothes are about to pop off of him. This
is known as CAPACITANCE (hi hi). I took the
ham radio humor collection, and set up a text
only version for the blind hams. It's 45 pages
smaller, and only 425 kilobytes instead of 20
megabytes in size!!
I was busy with ham radio, weather, square
dance, and computer BBS stuff last week. I
upgraded the Xfinity service for faster speed,
and a WiFi extender, that'll go to the nearby
cell towers if the local internet goes out.
It'll cost a bit more a month, but it'll be
worth it during nets, and for website updates.
I got a delivery from UPS today for the return
box...and my Terminix treatment comes tomorrow.
Then, I see the podiatrist Wednesday, and that's
my last medical deal for the year. So, it's a
busy week.
I saw in the January 2026 e-Edition of QST, that
the new Technician Class Question Pool that takes
effect on July 1, had over 2 dozen questions taken
out, over 2 dozen replacement questions, and 150
modified questions, for 410 questions total. It
appears to be a significant change in the exam
pools, so if you know anyone wanting to get into
the hobby, the current Technician Pool expires on
June 30. Also in there was a 4 band Wouxon HT --
6 meters, 2 meters, 220, and 440. I didn't bother
to look at the price, but it's amazing what the
technology is doing nowadays.
We were in the 60s last Friday, the 40s Saturday,
barely it made it to freezing Sunday, back to the
40s today, and forecast for 50s and 60s by mid to
late week, with thunderstorms. Much of the state
was in the teens overnight. It looks like a wet
Christmas here instead of a white one.
I've made plans to go to 4 regional hamfests in
2026, and will be riding with fellow hams to the
events. I haven't had a chance to work with
remotehams.com again, as I crashed out on Sunday.
I went to a square dance Christmas Party Saturday,
and scarfed cake, cookies, plus ice cream; and got
several photos for the publication that I prepare
each month.
GE Eric...how was your week?? >>>
**
WG3K:
GE all.
It's CHILLY here in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.
Current temperature is 27F, which is about 10 degrees
warmer than last night! Woke up Sunday morning to
about an inch of graupel (rough, icy "snow") on the
ground. The daytime melt and night time refreeze was
enough to delay schools this morning, so the kids had
a leisurely, uneventful morning today.
Attempting to get ready for next week's festivities.
Got folks coming into town on the 26th, and then we
leave for West Virginia to go do winter activities
(sledding, crosscountry skiing, hiking, etc).
Hope to do some POTA and SOTA activations while I'm
there. BTN >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Eric, I haven't heard the term "graupel" in awhile.
I talked to KC3TBC, Rich, in Gaithersburg, MD, and
he said he had snow on top of freezing rain, which
make his sloping driveway very treacherous. Hope you
have a safe trip for the holidays, and can do POTA
and SOTA.
I guess we lost Mike, but he'll still be logged.
GE Bob...how are you doing?? >>>
**
NS2B:
GE All!
Like Eric, it's CHILLY here! Been teens and 20s for
the past week, but supposed to be 40s and rain for
Thursday and Friday. I'm kinda looking forward to
the break!
I've reported looking after the MIL for the past few
nets. She passed yesterday. Funeral scheduled for
Friday.
Currently working on Hamword. And I've put together
my PKTNET bulletin for this month.
As soon as I have an HF path to K5DAT I'll post it.
Not much else going on. Running behind on Christmas
shopping, but that's normal for me!
BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob, our condolences to you on the loss of your MIL...
I hope the humor I had brought a bit of a smile to your
face. :)
I thought we'd have a ton of reports of busted pipes and
fires down here, as many folks just don't pay attention
to the weather. FB on HamWord and the PKTNET bulletin.
I think all my holiday shopping is done.
GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
GE All.
Sorry I missed the net last week, but we were having a
family night and watching the old Rudolph the Red Nose
Reindeer animation. We identify with the land of misfit
toys around here :-) We got the tree up and I got the
last of the Christmas cards mailed today, so I think I
may be ready for next week.
Beyond that, I need to get back to some electronics and
ham radio projects. I hope the next week or so will be
fairly quiet. I guess that's about all for now. BTN >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Carl, I think a lot of hams have misfit toys...but, one
can never have too many radios (hi hi). GL on the
electronic projects...I wonder if first class postage
will go up again in 2026.
Mike, you'll be after Rick, who is next.
GE Rick, how was your week?? >>>
**
VA7RBP:
GE Daryl and all on the NET!
Still no snow here, just rain, and today's temp was 50F.
We haven't been doing much lately, just gearing up for
the trip to Kelowna on Sunday, for Arlene's knee
replacement surgery next Monday.
We were going to have family dinner yesterday, to cover
two Grandaughter's birthdays and Christmas dinner, but my
Daughter's whole family has come down with colds, so
dinner was canceled... we don't want Arlene getting sick..
They might cancel the surgery again...
On the radio front, it's just been the usual 40M, 20M, and
10M PACTOR sessions.
I hope everyone has a great Christmas and New Years, stay
well, see you in the New Year!
Thanks to Daryl and Bob for the NET! 73 for now,
BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Rick, bummer on the dinner cancellation...maybe you can do
it early next year. I hope that Arlene can get the surgery
done, and the weather will be good for travel. Take care,
and we'll see you next year.
Well, I see Mike is back...Mike go ahead and make your
comments before we lose you again >>>
**
KB3TEL:
Ge all. yes, sorry i copy a few sentences than stops ??
Been a cold December with snow pack already early in
December old fashion winter
Worked on the node here. Installed on raspberry pi 3
running on solar. Not sure why it stops recieving the
net here.
btu net control Daryl >>
**
N5VLZ:
Mike, glad you made it in. You might want to consider
telnet if RF is too rough.
OK, now let's get final comments.
Bob, again, our condolences in the loss of your MIL...hope
you got a smile out of the "holiday electronics"...and
thanks for providing the BBS for another year. Anything
else for us?? >>>
**
NS2B:
Yeah, thanks for those Daryl - everyone have a Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year! See you in 2 weeks! 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
73, Bob...enjoy the time off, as we all will.
Eric, anything else?? >>>
**
WG3K:
Thanks, Bob, for reminding me to do both my HAMWORD and
PKTNET check-in; I had forgotten to do both!
I am almost done with my Radiogram holiday messages and
need to work on my physical cards next. Maybe I'll be
good and have everything ready to be sent out by tomorrow.
Everyone have a Happy whatever-you-celebrate and a Merry
New Year! 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Eric...see you next year.
Carl, anything else?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a joyous new year to
all. See you all next year. 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Same to you, Carl...see you next year.
I think Rick was a 1 rounder, but want to be sure. Rick,
if you're still here, anything else?? >>>
**
VA7RBP:
