N5VLZ:

GE all, and welcome to the Nov 17 2025 PCL Net.
Early checkin via Winlink from Scott, K0WAV,
who is busy painting the interior of his house.

Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Carl, Rick,
Dennis, and whoever else shows up.

Our next net holiday is next Monday night, Nov.
24 for Thanksgiving week. Then, we'll have 3
more PCL Nets for 2025 on Dec. 1, 8, and 15...
we'll be OFF Dec. 22 for Christmas Week, and
Dec. 29 for New Years Week, then will resume
on Jan. 5, 2026. We want to wish everyone a
safe and happy holiday season.

Weather was crazy last week. We were at 29
last Monday and Tuesday morning, then near
80 last Friday afternoon. A stormy, unsettled
weather pattern is set for my area, and much
of the country before and after Thanksgiving.

There is a threat of both severe weather and
flash flooding mid to late this week, then
possibly again early next week...before the
colder weather arrives.

I'm set up for Arkansas Skywarn, and if the
weather conditions warrant, you can monitor
the net on Broadcastify; on Arkansas, Pulaski
County, Little Rock, CAREN/W5DI or Arkansas
Skywarn. The winter weather pattern is looking
eerily similar to 1999, when we started with
ice storms in December, then we had a tornado
outbreak in January.

The FCC ULS is finally back up, and the VEC's
have been submitting exam session results, so
hopefully that will be caught up before the
holidays. The Technician Class Question Pool
and exams change next July 1, but I have no
idea how much change there will be.

GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>

**

NS2B:

GE All!

I'm tired - we've been making the Syracuse
run a bit more often as the MIL was in the
hospital, now rehab. I think after the net
I'm going go crash!

WX: Last week I reported snow followed by
rain. Well it's been raining ever since!
Thankfully, it's staying warm enough not to
be snow, or we'd be "snowed in" !!

On the radio front: got Hamword in 3 guesses
today.

Been listening for SSTV on the ISS, as they
are supposed in that mode until the 24th. But
haven't heard anything yet.

That's all for me. BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Bob, sorry to hear about the deal with the MIL...
I can understand about wanting to crash. This
time of year, I've been napping more than usual.
We may see quite a bit of rain here this week
and next week. Last week, they saw aurora borealis
down into south Louisiana, so it was all across
Arkansas, and the ISS passed over the region as
well.

GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

GE All. Well, still trying to get my energy back
and regain some of the weight I lost after my
surgery, but I think I am definitely getting better.

I have been playing with a rubudium frequency
standard, and so far it looks like most of my
instruments are calibrated pretty well.

We are finally getting into the nice weather time
of year here, though we have been having some rain
the last few days. It never rains a ton, but it does
sometimes wake me up in the middle of the night, so
it can be a hard rain for a short while. Some areas
have trouble with flash floods, but we are on a
sloping area, so all the water just rushes past us
down the street :-)

I did not know the ISS was doing SSTV again, I will
definitely have to check that out. I managed to get
several nice captures while I was in Florida, so I
will have to see what I can get here. I think I
probably have a better sky view here, so it should
be good.

I guess that's about it. Oh, I do have to rethink
some network stuff here. I wanted to make a change,
but broke the BBS in the process. I got it back up
today, but not really the way I wanted. Oh, well.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving, I am definitely in
the mood for turkey.

Back to net >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Carl, I think I found the weight you lost, and I'm
like a polar bear wanting to hibernate (hi hi). I've
seen the flooding into those arroyos that can cause
big problems.

Hope you can get some good SSTV stuff from the ISS.

I am still working on glitches on my own BBS...and a
fellow ham is bringing me some food for turkey day.

GE Rick, how was your week?? >>>

**

VA7RBP:

GE Daryl and all on NET.

The past two weeks have been fairly uneventful, just
the usual attempts at PACTOR on 40M and 20M in the
mornings, and calling the NOON-TIME NET on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday, and the 80M OLIVIA 16/1K NET
on week nights.

I missed this NET last Monday due to a meeting in
Nelson.

The weather here has been rainy every day, so I haven't
been getting out for my walks, just sitting around
reading, and getting fatter...

Arlene just heard today from the surgical nurse that
she is now off of medical hold, and we should be hearing
from scheduling soon for her knee replacement surgery...
then more waiting.

Last week the bands were terrible, propagation was bad,
I think due to solar storms.

We had someone on one of my NOON-TIME NETS mention
meshtastic, so I have been trying to read up on that.
Can't afford to do anything though, too close to Christmas,
and three Grandkid birthdays to spend money on.

OK, that's about it for me, so BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

GE, Dennis...be with you momentarily.

Rick, You might want to talk to Bob, KF5TVG on the
meshtastic stuff...sorry he is not here tonight.

FB on the ham radio stuff, and on Arlene finally getting
off the medical hold, but bummer on waiting for the surgery.

It was a G4 CME this past week, and more may be on the
horizon.

As for the weather, it'll be soggy here mid to late week,
and early next week. As for getting fatter, we need to build
up insulation for the cold winter to keep warm (hi hi).

GE Dennis, how was your week?? >>>

**

KA3BVJ:

Hi all.

Well trying to get in the mood for the season...but I
came home from work Friday night, and had a repair truck
here.

Ended up my entrance had a problem; they replaced
everything from the top of the pole down to the meter base
and to the disconnect...Not sure what the cost is going to
be.

The problem was found after a worker got shocked while
hooking up the new water line.

Thats it from here.... >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Dennis, sorry to hear about the electrical issue...hope
they can get it fixed.

I'm still waiting on a deal from my late brothers 401k
so I can fix a problem under the house.

As for trying to get in the mood for the season, I got
burned out on the holidays years ago, because of all the
commercialism.

That's it for round 1...back to the top for final comments.

Remember, no PCL Net next Monday, Nov. 24, but we'll be
back on Dec. 1.

Bob, thanks for the use of the BBS...I'll send out the
bulletin on the net vacation next week. Anything else?? >>>

**

NS2B:

Since I have no memory, I looked to confirm the ISS SSTV
dates. They're allegedly running til the 19th, not the 24th.
But like I said, I haven't heard it yet.

That's all for me, everyone have a good Thanksgiving! 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Bob...see you in 2 weeks.

Carl, anything else?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

Well, gotta fire up "previsat" and find ISS passes ... hope
I can catch something before the 19th. They always seem to
catch me by surprise.

Nothing else from here. See you all in two weeks. 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Take care, Carl...hope you can snag some contacts with the
ISS.

Rick, anything else?? >>>

**

VA7RBP:

Nope, everyone have a great Thanksgiving, stay well, don't eat
too much, 73 until next time. BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Rick. I'm glad I don't have a net on
Thursday, or I'd have a snore on my signal (hi hi).

Dennis, anything else?? >>>

**

KA3BVJ:

Well I do have my coal stove running....Also I am trying to
retire; I turned 70 last week. But these big bills just keep
coming.

Have a nice Hoilday....over!!!!! >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Dennis, the bills never end (sigh!). Hope you have a good
holiday as well, and a happy belated birthday.

That will do it for tonight's PCL Net. I'll post the scribe
in a bit, and we'll see everyone on Dec. 1.

73, Happy Thanksgiving, and GN DE N5VLZ. >>>
