N5VLZ:
Sorry for missing June 23...I had storms
in my area, I had some in the area earlier
today, and just noticed more to the west...
but I hope to finish this net. This has
been the stormiest spring and summer across
the country I can remember; whether it was
tornadoes, damaging winds, huge hail, deadly
flooding, lightning strikes, or tropical
weather systems. I hate to see what the
coming winter will be like. Then, we were
off last week due to the Independence Day
and Canada Day Holiday Week.
I ran out of food on June 29, and fasted
for 2 days, dropping to 236, and the glucose
to 80. So I ordered groceries on July 1, but
they didn't arrive until July 2...so I had
to order something from DoorDash. A fellow
local area ham brought me some extra food to
get me by...as always, too many other bills
interfering with life and hobbies. I brought
the glucose back up, and found the weight
that I had lost!! Unfortunately, I think I
have become lactose intolerant -- no more
ice cream or other dairy products...guess
I'll have to get cookies for dessert!!
I got an unexpected surprise at a local area
square dance special that I went to Saturday
night, as a photographer. I was called to the
front (I, and everyone else thought I was in
big trouble!!), but I got a certificate of
recognition for promoting the recent National
Square Dance Convention in Shreveport, in the
square dance publication that I'm the Editor
for. I figured since I could not attend due
to cost, I might as well promote it.
I ordered a hamshack sign that changes color
from HamCrazy for $33...that will act as a
nightlight of sorts. Then, I ordered a key
fob for the alarm system, so I can arm and
disarm the house when I go out and return
from errands. I see the urologist Tuesday
afternoon, the podiatrist after I get back
from the Shreveport Hamfest, and then I get
a full physical and flu shot in October, a
a podiatrist visit just before Thanksgiving,
and a Home Health visit in December. I hope
that will be all my medical stuff for 2025.
A fellow Arkansas QCWA Member will drive me
to the Shreveport Hamfest, then we'll pick
up another one on the way. We'll either be
The 3 Amigos, or The 3 Stooges (hi hi), but
we are the board of QCWA Chapter 158. I have
a report in the August issue of the Journal,
and one ready for the September issue of the
Journal.
I'll start 2 new nets for QCWA on Saturday,
July 19; first with a CQ200 Net at 9pm Eastern,
followed by the QCWA 158 Net at 10pm Eastern,
both on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. The CQ200
Net will be on the VoIP mode of CQ200, and it
is in the free window from 0000 to 2359 UTC
Sunday, so folks don't need to pay the $39 a
year fee, if they don't want to. Following
that net, the QCWA 158 Net will meet on the
QuadNet Array. My email is good on QRZ if you
need further info on those nets.
My link to RMS Express that I use for WL2K
got corrupted, so I have to likely look for
and redownload the program. Technology,
phooey. At least APRSIS32 is working, and I
can check into APRS Thursday each week. They
get over 500 checkins from 0000 to 2359 UTC
each Thursday.
GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>

NS2B:
GE All!
It was hot! At least we haven't had much rain
lately, so no flooding. Supposed to be a bit
cooler tomorrow - it'll be a good day to mow!
Just got my truck out of the shop. It pulled
up lame needing a water pump. It's all better
now.
Speaking of ice cream, we double dipped this
weekend, (no pun intended) - went to Abbott's
Saturday - they're like Andy's Frozen Custard
if you're familiar with them. And then Carvel
on Sunday.
After 4 or 5 years as the HF port radio for
the node my Alinco DX-SR9 has started acting
weird. I think I'll put the G90 on the node
and see if it's better.
That's about it for me. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:
Bob, heat index was over 100 here...after the
rain, the sun comes out, and it becomes a
steam bath. Glad the truck got out of the
vehicular hospital. I hate I'll have to avoid
banana splits, etc. from now on. Hope you can
get the G90 working.
GE Carl, how was your week??? >>>
**
KX4AC:
GE All. We had a quiet holiday week here, at
least if you don't count the roofers pounding
up there. Looks like they are done as of today,
so the quiet mornings should return. I need to
take a good look to see if there is any damage
to my long wire, then will back up on HF.
More little things to fix around the house.
Got a couple of broken landscape watering lines,
mostly easy to fix. Got a dripping faucet ...
got the parts to fix that at Home Depot today.
Summer is officially here in Arizona. By my
thermometer, we hit 120 at least one day over
the weekend, which is about typical for this
time of year. The mornings are mostly still
decent, as long as the humidity is not too
high after a rain.
I am learning KiCAD now so I can make a nice PC
board for my reference oscillator project. I have
usually just point-to-point wired my projects up
to this point, but I want to try doing a proper
board for this one.
I guess that's about it for now. >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Carl, FB on getting the roof work done. In places
where these huge hailstorms have been, they've
needed roof and window repair. Hope you can get
the water lines fixed. I saw the Extreme Heat
Warnings out there...we may see that in Arkansas
soon. FB on the KiCAD.
GE Rick, how was your week?? >>>

VA7RBP:
GE Daryl and all on NET.
Field Day weekend went really well, just myself
and one other HAM camped out, running on solar
and batteries. We had the usual issues pop up,
my coax had to be re-crimped, my batteries
decided to poop out, and I had to borrow a
lithium battery from my partner, and N1MM
logger decided to hickup, but we got it all
going, and between us, made about 100 contacts,
and 924 points, and had lots of fun.
Then last week was spent unpacking everything
and finding places to store it all again.
I still have to get my solar panels back in the
shack window, and connected to the batteries.
It was a hot week, so we have been hiding indoors.
Right now the temp on the back deck is reading
100F.
My usual morning 40M and 20M PACTOR sessions have
been pretty lousy all week... band conditions. I
wonder if being further North is affecting the
propagation, I hear folks, but they are not hearing
me. I am getting weak signal reports...
OK, that's it for me, BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Rick, FB on FD, but it's like vacation...packing
before, and unpacking afterwards...and we can't keep
Murphy away. :P I've heard that HF has been pretty
rough lately, and as you said, it may be because
where you are.
GE Bob (OK)...looks like The Heartland Flyer ends
on Sept. 30 -- sad. How was your week? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
GE Daryl and all on the net!
Didn't know about the Heartland Flyer... need to
check on that.
Had a pretty quiet $th of July this year. Grandkids
did sparklers and a few small fountains. Really
low key.
I didn't feel well on FD weekend, so totally blew
it off. Hope to get serious about it again next year.
I've started looking at weather balloon data again.
This time of year, the balloon/radiosondes tend to
land within 20 miles or so from where they are
launched. (In winter, it's not unusual for them to
blow from central OK all the way to AR). Last week,
one landed less than 2 miles from my house, but it
was in a field with grass up to my chest, and who
knows how many snakes/sq foot were there. I chose
not to get snake bit. :(
You can follow along at sondehub. org . There are
about 250 launch sites across North America, and
the sondes are a good source for free parts!
KF5TVG : That's all for now. BTU Daryl>>>

N5VLZ:
Bob, on that last day, you could probably ride from
Oklahoma City to Fort Worth, then take the Trinity
Railway Express (as long as it's not on Sunday) to
the station serving DFW Airport, then fly back to
OKC. They likely will deadhead the cars on the Texas
Eagle back to Chicago.
I wish it had been as quiet here on the firecrackers,
etc. -- I was a nervous wreck. Those sparklers can
still be 2000 degrees.
FB on the radiosondes, and I thought about the same
thing of snakes in the grass!!
That'll do it for round 1...back to the top for final
comments.
Bob (NY) thanks for the use of the BBS...anything
else?? >>>
**
NS2B:
Nothing more here - Carl, thanks for the scripts!
I'm always looking for examples!
73 all, have a good week! >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Bob (NY), see you next time.
Carl, anything else?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
Good luck with the scripts, Bob ... glad to help
(just slow about it!)
I need to start looking for radiosonde stuff ... I
knew it was a thing but always forget to check on
it.
Thanks for the net, Daryl. 73s to all >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Carl...see you next time.
Rick, anything else?? >>>
**
VA7RBP:
Nope, that's it for me for this week. Everyone have
a great week, stay well, 73 until next time.

KF5TVG:
Nope. Thanks to Daryl and Bob(NY) for making the
net happen! 73 >>>

N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Bob (OK)...see you next time.
That will do it for the July 7 2025 PCL Net. I'll
post the scribe on Tuesday before going to the
urologist...but I need to get some dinner before
my other net.
Have a good week, 73, and GN DE N5VLZ. >>>
