GE All, and welcome to the Jan 20 2025 PCL Net.
No early checkins.

Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Rick, and whoever
else shows up.

N5VLZ:

I never thought I'd see Winter Storm Warnings
in Houston, New Orleans, and elsewhere. Some
parts of central Louisiana may approach a foot
of snow!! It's bitter cold here, but compared
to North Dakota, with -25F and a windchill of
-55F, 25F temperature and 10F windchill seems
balmy. It looks like it'll start warming up,
with only rain and maybe thunderstorms forecast
with the next weather systems. I'll be curious
what the groundhogs say on Feb. 2 (hi hi).

I nearly became a Silent Key last Wednesday, as
I was looking for the alcohol swabs I had in a
box on the floor to start my blood glucose and
sugar checks. As I was getting up, the clothes
dresser, weakened with age, tipped over. I got
out of the way, but now H.A.M. stands for "Have
A Mess". I'm working to get help to clean things
up, but that may take awhile.

A fellow ham from west Texas is wanting to go to
the Huntsville Hamfest (he has never been to a
hamfest), so with him coming through Little Rock,
he invited me to tag along. So as of now, I've
got ham radio trips to Wichita, Shreveport,
Huntsville, and hopefully to Albuquerque. My
travel days will END after this year, as both my
health and finances won't let me do it anymore.

GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>

NS2B:

GE All.

As you alluded to, it's cold! We're 9 with a
windchill of -5 - my son is in Minneapolis - he's
-13 with a windchill of -25. My brother lives in
Marshfield MO - they're at 14 I think I saw -
that's cold - anything below 20 is cold.

Got home from Syracuse today to find 6 inches of
snow in my driveway - it's too cold - I'll shovel
it tomorrow! Maybe...

Went to an FLdigi class held by the local club on
Saturday. I thought I already knew that software
package pretty well - I still learned a couple
things. They're having 2 more sessions the next 2
Saturdays - I'll hit those too.

FB on your travel plans Daryl. Never say it's over
until it's over. You never know what life will
bring you!

BTU, Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Bob, I've been watching YouTube videos from USA RAIL
GUIDE -- watched the route of The Texas Eagle from
Chicago through Little Rock to San Antonio, then
joined with The Sunset Limited at San Antonio to Los
Angeles...now watching The Empire Builder from Chicago
to Spokane then Seattle and Portland. From Minnesota
westward (the trip was around March 2023), it's snow
everywhere you look!! Folks are apologizing to "summer"
for complaining that "it's too hot" (hi hi)

Amazing all the software and other modes in ham radio
nowadays. I'm looking forward to the trips. I will miss
some nights of the PCL Net, but I will advise when the
trips get closer, so you can be here for me.

GE Rick, how was your week?? >>>

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on NET.

The week was pretty "usual", nothing exciting to report.

We still haven't had any snow, current temp is 27F, and
last night it got down to -04F.

As mentioned, just did my usual 40M and 20M PACTOR, played
around a bit with HF APRS using VARA and PINPOINT, and
managed a few links with Robust Packet on 20M. Played around
with the 3D printing a bit, still tons of learning to do.

Did lots of reading (scifi books), and watched the occasional
TV show.

OK, that's my report for this week. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Rick, FB on the weather, ham radio, printing, and reading.
Several hams are using those 3D printers now. I designed a
"trains net ticket" with special templates from Avery. I have
to order the paper next month. But, I may have to get a new
conductors outfit, as I can't get to my closet right now. At
least I won't need the outfit until August.

That's it for round 1. Back to the top for final comments.
Bob, thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else?? >>>

NS2B:

Nothing more here - you all have a good week - stay warm! 73 >>>

N5VLZ:

You too, Bob. See you next week.

Rick, anything else?? >>>

VA7RBP:

Nope...that's it for me. Everyone have a great week, stay well,
and 73 until next time. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Rick...see you next week.

Not sure where our crowd from last week is...Carl recently moved to
Arizona, but we haven't seen him since the move. Anyway, that'll do
it for tonight's net. I'll have the scribe posted later this evening
or sometime Tuesday. 73 and GN DE N5VLZ, and stay warm!! >>>
