N5VLZ:

Well, thanks to storms here on Dec. 16, and
our year end holiday break on Dec. 23 and 30,
I have not talked to you since last year (hi
hi). Our next net holiday is for Easter, which
is in late April this year.

There were severe storms in south Arkansas, and
some snow and ice in north Arkansas on Sunday...
but just rain and a few storms here. The bottom
fell out on the temperature, with the arctic
hammer on this part of the country. We are looking
at a snowstorm on Thursday night through Friday. It
is still a bit too early to know amounts, but if it
is anything like what fell from Kansas and Missouri
east into the DelMarVa and the Mid-Atlantic, it'll
be a mess, considering Arkansans don't know how to
drive on snow or ice!! I've got my license exam
sessions set for 2025...but we won't start until
March, due to the winter weather threat. Tornado,
Pollen, and Mosquito season will return soon enough.

On a lark, I checked with Amtrak on possible train
trips to ham radio events. I was not able to get
funding together for a trip to Orlando Hamcation
next month...but I got 2 Amtrak combination Train
Coach and Thruway Bus trips for under $250. I'll be
going from Little Rock to Fort Worth to Oklahoma
City on Amtrak, then via a Thruway Bus to Wichita,
Kansas for the QCWA Chapter 79 Meeting and lunch on
May 17; and with being an out of state attendee, my
lunch will be free. I just looked at their menu, and
I have a wide selection to choose from...I hope I
arrive there hungry (hi hi). The total train and bus
cost was $178!! The second trip will be on August 9
for the Arklatex hamfest in Shreveport, Louisiana...
with a train from Little Rock to Longview, then a bus
to Shreveport...the total train and bus cost was $68!!
I'm still working on getting the hotel info for both.
But, this is the happiest I have been in several years.
I just hope and pray the rug doesn't get pulled out
from under me.

GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>

NS2B:

GE All!

FB on your trips! You've been needing to get out of the
house.

It's cold here - but we haven't had a lot of snow - I
think maybe 6 inches for the whole season thus far. Not
complaining! We were out in Syracuse over the weekend - had
8 or 10 inches there - got home - nothing here! Fine by me!
As you noted before net, Erie has been hammered, and the Tug
Hill region up around Watertown has been equally snowed upon.

On the ham radio front, spent the last few days capturing
images from the ISS via SSTV. That's the first time I've been
able to do that. Normally I hear that they're sending pics
AFTER they've finished!

Christmas was good, got plenty of new sweaters and a pile of
gift cards. And for the new year, I've joined an old folks
Ukulele group at the local rec center. I think it'll be a hoot!

That's it for me, BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Bob, my cousin in Erie had gotten 6 feet of lake effect snow
from the first set of storms. It melted, but now, it's round 2.
FB on the ISS images, and the gifts fo Christmas. I got myself
a new laptop, but want to be sure it doesn't have any spyware
(it came from Hong Kong)...and FB on the ukulele group. Not
sure if I can operate railroad mobile, although I upgraded my
cellphone plan to unlimited talk text and data for $62 a month.

GE Bob (PA)...glad to have you with us. When done, just type >>> and
we will know you're finished. >>>

KE3MX:

Greetings from the frosty Pocono Mtn's. Abt 1" of fresh snow today.
We dodged the big one as it passed by to our south!

Bob, used to ride Tug Hill by snowmobile every year!

Just hanging in shack chasing POTA CW stations, but slim pickins as
bands not that great tonite!

Well thats it from here! KE3MX back to net!>>

N5VLZ:

Bob (PA) I think a lot of folks were unprepared, or didn't heed the
warnings. It looked like some areas got hit hard with snow, ice, and
now, power outages. :(

There was an article in QST of an Arkansas station working all 275
POTA's, and I saw one in Ohio from a club up there that did likewise.

GE Rick, how are you this evening?? >>>

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on NET

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years Eve.

Ours was relatively quiet, Chrsitmas dinner at our Daughter's, and New
Years, we just watched TV. Arlene had to keep waking me up, so that I
could make it until midnight.

We are still waiting to see any amount of snow here. Mother Nature keeps
teasing us with dustings of a half an inch, which melts away during the
day.

On the radio front, it's just been morning PACTOR sessions on 40M and
20M, some Robust Packet on 20M, and lately I have been playing with HF
APRS on 30M with PINPOINT, and VARA.

OH, and I borrowed a 3D printer to learn on. I'm going to sell my FT-890
and buy a 3D printer. Hoping to make some cases for Raspberry Pi and
Arduino projects.

So, nothing really exciting going on here...that's about it for me, so BTU
Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Rick, on staying up until midnight, you should've just celebrated at UTC
time, then you could've gone to bed early (hi hi). I tried to, but they
were shooting off those cursed fireworks, bottle rockets, firecrackers,
etc. You may get snow eventually. FB on the Pactor, Pinpoint, and Vara,
as well as the 3D Printer.

GE Mike, how are you this evening?? >>>

KB3TEL:

GE and HPNY to all

I am good stayinging warm in my little shack. It is 24 f outside now,
and next year, I will celebrate new years with london!

I need to find some things to do in the winter. continue pota quest

Not sure where to find nice weather, but I dont have 6 feet of snow,
Tornadoes, and so far no ice storms!!

Had a good new year eve for my age now. played dominos with family and
friends til 11:30, finished up with champagne that tasted bad, maybe
just me.

Thats all i can type for now. all for this round back to net >>>

Mike, it's 32 in Little Rock, and dropping. FB on 2026 NY in London.
Winter Field Day is coming up later this month, so that's something
to look at. I think the first of 2 big RTTY contests was this past
weekend. FB on the dominoes...I had a little champagne when my late
parents had their silver anniversary in 1977...that was nasty. :P

GE Bob (OK), how are you tonight?? >>>

KF5TVG:

GE Daryl and all on the net!

Welcome to Bob(PA)! Bob(NY) and I are expecially happy to see you
here!

Daryl, sounds like you've found a great way to hit some of the radio
events. Let us know how it works out.

Had a great Christmas/NY season. Cold here over the last few days
with wind chill in the single digits. Just a dustiing of snow tho.

I've been following a guy at whiskeytangohotel.com and have done a
few of his arduino projects. Heard about him on hamradio workbench
podcast.

Still working on hamword, but dropped out over the holidays. Need to
get back in the groove.

That's all for me. BTU Daryl>>>

N5VLZ:

Bob, and all...the URL for that restaurant in Wichita is located at
https://www.waltseast.com/ -- be prepared to drool at the menu (hi hi).

FB on the WTH.Com site and the arduino projects. I never got started
on hamword. Saw Synchronet BBS software has upgraded, but I took my BBS
down a month ago to get a break from it...was waiting for a new version
of GT Power, but not sure if that's coming out or not.

Saw where Bob (PA) dropped out, so that'll make a shorter round 2, so
let's get started. Bob (NY) thanks for the BBS...anything else for us?? >>>

That waltseast looks like it has a lot of good eatin'! - nothing more here -
good to see everyone! - 73 >>>

N5VLZ:

My meal is free, but I wonder how much they'll let me have (hi hi). The
hard part is deciding on what to eat...there are chances to be cannibalistic
with ham on several items (hi hi). Thanks for being here, Bob.

Rick, anything else?? >>>

VA7RBP:

Nope...everyone have a great week, stay well, 73 until next time. HAPPY NEW
YEAR! BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Rick...see you next week.

Mike, anything else?? >>>

KB3TEL:

Daryl thanks for typing along with us . good reading

Like to switch this bbs over to raspberry , not so good on commands, but I
will learn them -- been stuck on windows 30 years

Have a great night and cul next week. Thats it for me 73 >>>

Mike, the last time I tried copy and paste, I crashed the telnet client.
So, I'll just take my time. Thanks for being here. I don't know much about
a raspberry pi, but a pineapple upside down cheesecake sounds awfully good
right now (hi hi).

Bob (OK), you get to wrap it up...I'll be passing thru Norman on the Wichita
trip, but won't be stopping there. Anything else?? >>>

KF5TVG:

That menu from Walts looks great. Now I'm hungry again!

We've been kicking around the idea to take the train from Norman to Ft Worth,
which is where our son and his 2 kids live. You've got me interested in
looking into it again.

That's all I've got, so hope all have a great week! Thanks to D and B(NY) for
making the net happen. BTU Daryl>>>

N5VLZ:

Bob, senior citizens (which I am now) get a 10% discount on fares. As for D
and B, I don't think that stands for Dunn and Bradstreet (hi hi). But as for
Amtrak, it's nice to let someone else do the driving. Thanks for being here.

That'll do it for tonight's PCL Net. I'll post the scribe later this evening
after The Pun In Life Net, or in the morning. 73, stay safe and warm, and GN
DE N5VLZ >>>
