WX4QZ:
Bob, NS2B, is out on "Pumpkin Patrol" duty tonight;
but he'll do the PCL Net the next 2 weeks for me on
Nov. 6 and 13, as I'll be QRT due to having medical
procedures that I noted last week. The pre-hip surgery
consultation is Thursday, and the hip surgery is Nov.
13. I have lots of questions for them, and I'll be
there much of the day. The hard part is finding
someone to stay with after the surgery. And, the
urinary tract procedure on Nov. 6 won't be fun at all.
We had rain and storms over the weekend, and will get
a statewide freeze the next 3 mornings. Only myself
and 3 other VE's showed up for an exam session Saturday,
so we chewed the fat for an hour, but set up our 2024
sessions.
The time change is this weekend, so don't forget to
"fall back". The PCL Net will be off Nov. 20, Dec. 25,
and Jan. 1 for the holidays.

VA7RBP:
Good evening Daryl and all on NET, and welcome to Chuck!
We had some s..w the other day, but it melted as fast as
it landed. Temps are dropping into the 20sF at night now.
We could get a big dump any time now.
I spent most of the past week fighting with trying to learn
"C" programming.
I added a USB HAT to my Pi4 NODE so that I could add
additional USB soundcards and serial ports. It worked pretty
good, until I decided to reboot the Pi, then the device IDs
got scrambled.
I spent most of yesterday trying to sort that out with udev
rules.
Chuck, I also have been working on an ALLSTARLINK NODE 56824,
no radio on it just iaxRpt and DVswitch, but I have 3 other
nodes (private extensions) that I am planning on using as
repeaters for my NOON-TIME NET...got radios for them, just
need antennas and real-estate to put them.
Thanks for the Meshtastic reference Bob! Something new to look
at...

KF5JRV:
We had a good week. The Farmers market is over so we have a
couple of free days.
We also had a hard freeze last night. All the plants hit very
hard. It is suppose to be 24F tonight so that should offically
end summer.
Starting to gather materials for a 6 Meter J pole. It will be
a good indoor project I think.

KF5TVG:
GE Daryl and all on the net. Welcome Chuck!
I mentioned using an ESP32 LoRa (long range) development board
to receive radiosonde info on 400MHz awhile back. It turns out
there are almose identical boards for 900MHz. Unfortunately,
several of us bought these boards, not realizing they were
incompatible with ojr original 400MHz boards.
Sooo, we are now going down another rabbit hole, chasing a
popular software package for these boards. It's called
MeshTastic, and one popular use case for it is for hikers
that take them along to keep track of their peers. Well,
hiking leaves me out (Hi Hi)! It can also be used to
remotely monitor sensors, such as temperature, pressure,
and humidity, so now I'm interested.
I'll let you know if anything interesting comes of it.
Hope everyone survives the trick/treaters tomorrow night.

Replies from WX4QZ:
Chuck, thanks for the chat before the net. GL with the
Echolink Node, getting it to work with the Hotspot and
Fusion, plus work on an Allstar node. FB on getting the
antenna on the roof tomorrow, and doing FreeDV tonight.
Rick, no snow for us yet...too early to know what winter
will bring. FB on the USB Hat, but bummer on the scrambled
frequencies...hope you can work that out.
Scott, FB on the Farmers Market deal...it's supposed to
be colder tomorrow night, and FB on the 6m JPole project.
Bob, FB on the radiosondes, but bummer on the incompatible
boards. Hiking is out for me as well, but with winter
coming on, you need those measurements.
I'll be doing a D-Star Net tomorrow night, and don't have
any candy, as I'm borderline type 2 diabetic...so my porch
light will be off Tuesday night.

Daryl, WX4QZ
