DAREN of WV News November 16, 2008 (.853)
Kenneth Harris WA8LLM (304) 679-3470 wa8llm@yahoo.com
WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS, P.O. BOX 3328, PARKERSBURG, WV 26103
http://www.wc8ec.com
DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio
"Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any
information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share
it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail:
wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00
pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net
Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both,
and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main
county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.
Randy Thomas, K8KHW, sent me a message about the Washington County, Ohio,
NODE/PBBS of EWSHOH/NPRTOH. Randy says there's something wrong with the
station, it seems the output power is way down. He's not for sure if it's the
antenna or the radio. He said that it will be a few days before he can get it
checked out. In the mean time to reach the NODE/PBBS you can go through the
K8KHW-7 or the OHA105 NODEs and issue a C VHF NPRTOH or EWSHOH command and get
connected to the station.
I just got the word last night that our communications group, Wood County
Emergency Communications, will be operating another Free Coffee Safety Break.
We now have three safety breaks, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. If
you happen to be traveling on I-77 over any or all of those holidays, you might
stop in and talk to the operators for a few. The Thanksgiving Safety Break
will operate at the Williamstown Welcome Center November 26th, 27th and 28th.
The Christmas Safety Break will operate at the Northbound Rest Area, just South
of Mineral Wells December 24th, 25th, and 26th. The New Years Safety Break
will operate at the Williamstown Welcome Center December 31st, January 1st, and
2nd.
As the WV ARRL SEC (Section Emergency Coordinator), I will be sending out E-
Mato all of the county EC (Emergency Coordinators) and DEC (District
Emergency Coordinators) asking to have a list of callsigns of all ARES
registered members in their county, or District. I have a list of all EC's and
DEC's in the counties and districts that have one, but I don't know how many
ARES registered members there are. If you are an EC or DEC, could you start
getting that information together.
There were 61 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. My daughter Cathy
Wotring, KC8DJJ, who has been participating in the net since April 27, 1996,
has completed 650 check-ins. And, Brad Caribine, KC8TYU, who's been
participating in the net since November 19, 2002, has completed 250 check-ins.
Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates. Jerry Nelson,
KD8HJN, needce April 27, 1996,
has completed 650 check-ins. And, Brad Caribine, KC8TYU, who's been
participating in the net since November 19, 2002, has completed 250 check-ins.
Both of these operators will be receiving their certificates. Jerry Nelson,
KD8HJN, needng to do before the next Wood County
Emergency Communications Meeting, so I will be in front of the computer for
awhile. Maybe I can mail the certificates out when I go to town on Tuesday.
