Hi All hams heading into homes :-)
Here in the East of Aus it is my observation that you get what you pay
for.
One retirement village near me here actually has it's own internal
television station where the whole thing is run by the residents
(inmates??) plus activities for just about every taste including a fully
equipped wood working shop and a metal working shop. The video programs
they produce are very good and quite often very interesting even to
outsiders.
They have one show where they are working there way around all the
residents interviewing them on their lives and careers. It makes
fascinating watching and is probably a very good record of living history.
Another one I went to had as its major activity for the week, basket
weaving, and whilst there I noticed that one old bloke was so bored he was
sitting near the main entrance door so that he could leap to his feet and
let people in and out....
The worst was a home where the only activity was group television
watching...
I do know that most if not all of the homes have a ban on ham radio due
probably to the high incidence of medical equipment and pacemakers etc.
I have seen quite a few of these places because my video making group goes
around to the various retirement places and shows movies to them. Only our
own productions I might add.
Currently we are booked out until 2011
Regards Tony
