Did I read right? One Million new hams, drawn from our elderly?

I was really interested in the donations , for the "Splash-Up"
festive dinner, as that is great ....BUT I do have diffuculty
with this "1 Million New Hams" .... And this is , because here
in CANADA when an elderly Ham goes into a hospital or retirement
home, or nursing home,,or whatever you want to call this dumps
they loose their rights to enjoy their hobby and the joy they
bring to other seniors also imprisoned.

I only saw one example of an elderly ham in a home, and he
brought joy to everyone there, by getting them on the air
and motivated.

I have no idea what it is like elsewhere, but on my visits
to these homes, and I have done a few like "light tours"
at Christmas, and also bringing music and song ...that they
look like and are bleak, boring dumps where these people
are prevented from enjoying their senior years.

I always hold hope here in CANADA that I am wrong...but it
seems to be shown to me at many times through the year
when all this isn't suppose to be true.

Just an observation from my spot here in CANADA. I realize
in other parts of the world seniors are respected and
encouraged, but here I feel they bor'em to death.
