Well I guess we have some people like that here, but there is plenty of
activity for the elderly here if they go and find it.Those beyond any
activity through sickness or mental problems are cared for in retirement
homes run by Silver Chain, Lions, Baptist and Anglican Churches, and the
Government of the state. Some of these have bed care annexes attached.
There are also Meals on Wheels for those who need them. The Lions
International give me two hours a month for home maintenance including
garden work. Silver Chain visits those who need help in their homes,
helping them bathe or shower, and doing whatever needs to be done. They
fitted my home with rails in the toilet and bathroom when my wife was
terminally ill.

Many people even though long in years are still very active in various
organizations. I am nearly 86 but I am organist and choirmaster at a local
church, play pennant bowls skippering a team, play bass clarinet in a
band, and am president of one organization and secretary of another. There
are others as old or older than I am who are also very active.

There is a Christmas Dinner for those who want to attend in my church hall
each Christmas, designed for those who are lonely and don't want to be
alone at Chrsitmas. It is well patronised.

Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.

More than a million old people in the UK are suffering the misery of
loneliness, a survey has revealed.
With a third of the UK's elderly population now living alone, including
half of all women over 65, Help the Aged is campaigning to give lonely and
depressed pensioners some Christmas cheer over the festive period.
The charity's research discovered that nearly half a million pensioners
only leave their houses once a week, and a further 300,000 are entirely
housebound.
