We had strong and severe storms through here
Saturday through Sunday. Flash Flood Warnings
were in my area, and a couple of very close
lightning strikes shook the house. I also lost
power for a few minutes. There's a slight
chance of rain Friday into Saturday, but
otherwise, seasonal temperatures.
I'm hoping to go to the store tomorrow (Senior
Day, 5% discount) to pick up some more lunch
meat. I've got plenty of bread, but don't need
beer, milk, or toilet paper...as seems to be
the demand here when they threaten snow or ice.
The viral video of that comedian "Gotta Get
The Bread And Milk!! They said SNOW!!" comes
to mind. This sandwich diet is rather bland.
However, I'm not going out unless I have to.
A needed haircut and shave (costing more than 2
bits) has to wait until next month.
I had to request a 3 month delay on the Terminix
Yard Service, due to medical issues, and lack of
funds. That 5.9% COLA increase got eaten up quick.
But, I figure with highs in the 40s and 50s, and
lows in the 20s and 30s, there won't be much insect
activity. Late January and February are our big
times for snow...as was the case last year.
I saw a packet message noting that N1URO is a SK.
From what I recall, he developed the URNODE packet
utility. No idea who will take it over now. I want
to say I saw messages from him on my telnet BBS;
his callsign sounds familiar.
Still no word from the FCC on that $35 fee, but
the new Technician Class Question Pool is out,
and that'll take effect July 1. I'm sure they'll
make some changes to it, before it's finalized.
I registered to be part of a UTI study...if I'm
accepted for it, the deal lasts 3 years, and I'll
get $1000 over the course of it. Obviously, they
don't pay you up front, as some folks would "take
the money and run". As one gets older, UTI's are
more common, and they're no fun.
I've gotten something in my right eye, and it has
been bothering me. I've been trying to cut down the
time at the computer...especially sitting in the
chair.
I saw a hilarous message the other day, on an
episode of "The Tonight Show" from years ago.
Joan Rivers was guest hosting for Johnny Carson,
and Betty White (who died recently) was one of
the guests. Betty said "All this talk of women
having trouble finding the G-Spot. For me, it's
a cinch!! When a man touches me, I say 'Oh, Gee!!'".
The audience erupted into raucous laughter (hi hi).
The QuadNet Array (openquad.net) no longer has
WIRES-X capabilities, but Fusion users can still
get in. Email me for details (my email is good on
QRZ). I use D-Star on there several times a week.

The week was busy. Finally moved into the modern era
and upgraded a couple of computers to something that would
run Windows 10 - including the node! It was easier than
I thought - but took some work.
Seems like a lot of SK's lately - Betty White, Bob Saggett,
Doby Gillis I heard! and Brian N1URO - I swapped messages
with him a few times - he was sort of an anti-BPQ guy -
but really smart - he'll be missed - wonder who's taking
over URNODE development?
Cold here, 17f it says - but it feels much colder.
I should try the cut and paste from notepad - but I
can't read that fast!!
Rick - whatever antenna you have for 15m, ou might want to
keep that one!
Steve - welcome to the net - good to have you here!

GE all. First time here.
I just started to get back into packet a couple weeks ago.
I use to do it in the 80's. A lot of new technology with packet
these days. Still learning the new stuff and the network.
I listen to some HF packet and checked into BBS there.
I heard about this chat room this morning and figured I would
check it out.
I been trying out some of the ISS passes this week since they
have their packet station turned on this month. First time I
done that. That was really fun. I played with WSPR before. It's
amazing who can hear you.
The post office lost my endorsements for my FT4 WAS for my digital
award. I contacted ARRL this morning and they are going to resend
them.
My other hobby is photography. I like to take walks and take
pictures of nature. So I was out today walking in the cold.
It was pretty windy. Today it was a little hard to walk with
the snow turning to ice. I can't wait until spring.

Good Evening Daryl and all on the net.
I got lots of exercise last week...shovelling snow just about
every day. By Friday we had about 2 1/2 ft.
I needed Saturday and Sunday to recuperate from sore back.
Temps got down to 16F and the last couple of days, it's back up
to around 32F
Had a bit of sun today. Did more snow removal than radio then
over the weekend the bands were inundated with RTTY, so not
much accomplished. Played with WSPR yesterday and today,
according to WSPRnet I was being heard in Antarctica on 15M
with 5 watts..

Bob, antenna is a Cushcraft R5 vertical mounted to a fence post.

Hope everyone had great holidays.
re FCC fees: Renewed license few weeks ago and no provision to pay.
Not complaining.
My license was original issue from FCC Dallas TX but when moved
to Missouri forgot to check the box so lost it. Since original
issue not required to wait two years etc for lottery. But
technically is now a vanity license. Last time renewed ten years
ago had to pay $35 but not this time
Been some cold (for us) weather in Missouri, down to 12 degrees f
couple mornings. Made up to 50.0 degrees today so improving some.
Oh Daryl, if you have ANY problems with eye no delay to get checked.
My girlfriend last May had detached retina and if had waited longer
would have lost that eye.
Daryl, also would like the info: nt5r@live.com or Bob bbs ok.

Steve, welcome to the group. We're here every Monday, except for
the weeks of Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day,
Thanksgiving and Christmas. On the photography, Rick, KA2BSM, out

I tell doctors offices that if they won't take an over the phone
payment, they won't get paid.
Rick, be careful shoveling that snow...it's like trying to lift an
upright spinet piano by yourself. Fine business on the QRP contact
to Antarctica on WSPR on 15 meters.
Charlie, I had a check for a detached retina last year...I thought
I'd go blind with that one. If I see a shadow curtain developing,
then it's time for surgery. Glad you got the license renewed, and
