I almost took a raincheck on tonight's net (never mind
March 15 was a bad day for Julius Caesar (hi hi)). I
barely finished the QCWA Digital Net yesterday when
thunderstorms moved in. Then, power went out just
before midnight for 3 hours. So, I was up the rest of
the night finishing work on a square dance publication
I had to get out today. I'm real tired right now, even
with a nap this afternoon.
I finished the chiropractic care earlier today. Once I
get the statement from the clinic, I'll call Geico to
discuss hopefully a nice settlement. I'm also hoping that
the green from the COVID-19 stimulus will be appropriate
on arrival on St. Patrick's Day on March 17...or I'm going
to be overdrawn next week...which would be a lousy
birthday present next Monday.
Wednesday could be a very stormy weather day here. We're
in an enhanced risk, but that's likely to be upgraded.
They're saying we'll have several days above 100 degrees
this summer, and we don't even want to think about the
heat index.
I finally got the windshield fixed on my car. Safelite
had scheduled me a week ago Friday, but it was Memphis
instead of Little Rock. Why does the phrase "Location,
Location, Location" come to mind?? (hi hi). At least
it has a lifetime warranty, but if a rock or hailstone
screws it up, I have to get it done again.
Last week, it was the batteries in the central heat
and air thermostat that quit. Saturday night, it was
the battery in the keyless door lock that failed. I
was locked out of the house, and it cost $165 for an
emergency locksmith to get here to get me inside. A
fellow square dance couple came by, and helped me get
the cover off the unit to replace the battery. I have
to get a "diamond star screw and screwdriver", so I
can change the battery in the future. I never thought
that batteries would be such a big deal, but they say
say that at the time change, to also change batteries
in smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and
NOAA Weather Radios.
Speaking of time, I wonder how many missed the time
change this weekend?? I wish they'd decide on one time,
and leave it that way. And for waiting time, I saw
where Icom is to resume production of the ID-52, the
144/430 Mhz 5 watt D-Star Transceiver. I know a large
number of folks are wanting it, and I understand it's
rather pricey. I don't know if that Japanese electronics
factory that had that huge fire is back up or not...but a
ton of amateur and commercial electronics were impacted.

It was cold today! After last weeks 60s it seemed really
cold! But, it was sunny.
Haven't done anything on the radios other than listen in
on DMR/D-Star nets. I have my DMR hotspot configured to
monitor multiple networks now - and my DMR radio has a
promiscuous mode that allows to hear everything that spews
out of the hotspot - gets interesting sometimes trying to
keep track of 2 or 3 different conversations!
I had a new furnace installed 2 winters ago. Along with that,
I got a new thermostat - a couple weeks ago, I noticed an
alert symbol on the display, but it wasn't readily obvious
what it was whining about - finally decided to start pushing
buttons - got to a screen where it described it's complaints -
low battery! and it wanted the furnance filter changed.
Now that I've figured out how to use that thermostat, it has
some nice features!
But speaking of batteries - I worry about the key fobs for my
corvette. It has keyless entry and ignition - but the key fobs
have to be alive!! I can see that going badly.
I heard that factory that burned is back in production so a number
are a number of radios are starting to appear on the shelves again.
With my auto-setting clocks - Sunday morning my alarm got me up at
the new 6AM - I wondered I felt so tired! Then I remembered - oh,
it's really 5AM ...
