Hi all,
The Amateur radio union of Serbia (SRS), widely known of its stupid
decisions & regulations, recently announced a new rulebook on performing
ham examinations in Serbia. Their newest invention is to force the lower
ham category (named "3rd class") to stay at least for two years in that
category before being permitted to go for an exam for the upper category
(named "1st class"). It makes me wonder if a similar rule exist in your
country. Interestingly, they did not say anything about what they would
like an applicant to do in the lower category during those two years.
However, as an alternative to the above (I mean *instead* of those two
years in the lower category), they offered an exam permission for the
1st class to those candidates of the 3rd class who can give valid proofs
that they had worked at least 100 DXCC countries by modes А1А, Ј3Е. I
also wonder whether a similar rule exist in your country.
In my view, it is very unfair to force candidates for the upper category
to work only А1А and Ј3Е as a 'proof of quality and competence'. What
about computer-related modes, such as HF pactor, PSK, etc ...? Is it
good practice to force newcomers to work А1А, Ј3Е if they do not prefer
telegraphy or SSB voice? What is your opinion and experience?
Best regards, 73
