It was solved years ago with extension to AX.25 protocol called "DAMA",
possible you can still search the docs. 

In brief, any user stations never begin transmit before the Node sent to
each one user "poll packet" or "checking packet".

Some analogy to an SSB/FM phone roundtable mode, when main operator
give microphone to others members in sequence.
Of course there are always pros and cons in any scenario...


About your idea of multi-receivers node, its was done too,
on packet satellites in 1990's, it was even duplex mode (145/435MHz).
There was 2 or 3 receiver channels on SAT's Uplink,
with single TX (donwlink) channel to users.

For simple test of your idea, you can try setup two sets of modems,
use some second receiver antenna, then interlock PTT and TX lines
from two modems to single transmitter.
Also interlocking should be possible in BPQ software and/or in modem software.
