Because medals don't put food on my table.
Anyway, some of us have paid dearly for those medals in increased taxation
simply to bolster Bliar and his cronies search for fame and kudos.
The games in 2012 will cost 9.2billion UKP. Which would pay for how many
new hospitals? How many hip replacements? How many doses of cancer saving
drugs? How many support services for the old, infirm or disabled.
When the country is in tip-top condition then the government can squander
my taxes on showing off. Till then I'd prefer the money to spent on
something useful rather than grandstanding to Johnny Foreigner.
The only (and it's of dubious benefit) is that the UK got more golds than
the god's own sporting nation, Australia. Seeing so many gobby Ozzies with
nothing to say has been amusing. But still not worth the millions spent so
far, never mind the billions to come.
