Hello David,

In later releases of Linux not all pty ports are in /dev, most are in a
sub-directory of /dev.

It is usual now for only ptyp#/ttyp# to appear in /dev

I have used two solutions. One is to create a symlink to
/dev/<sub-directory>, and the other is to use ptyp instead of ptyq. The
latter is the simplest solution.

If that doesn't fix your problem you may want to investigate a kernel
related problem such as MKISS being broken. It has happened in some not too
old kernels.

Cheers ... Ray vk2tv
