DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio
"Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any
information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share
it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail:
wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00
pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net
Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both,
and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main
county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

There's not much news this week, and what I do have is going to be late getting
out. Our communications group, Wood County Emergency Communications, is going
to be operating the BINGO games at the West Virginia Interstate Fair and
Exposition, which will be held from Tuesday the 15th through Saturday the 19th
here in Wood County. Several members of our group will be putting up our 24 by
80 foot canopy and putting together the tables to eat 144 players today. I'll
be working on the News after that job is finished. On Monday I'll be going to
the West Virginia University at Parkersburg, to help set up for an Emergency
Operations Center class that will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The classes will run from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm each day, and the BINGO games will
start at 6:00 pm and operate until 11:00 pm. I'll be at the classes during the
day and at the BINGO games in the evenings, so I'll have very little time to
get the News posted. What I don't get posted today and Monday, I'll post the
rest of the week during breaks from the BINGO games. If any one has any news
they would like to have spread, let me know so that I can get it put in the
DAREN News.

I do make mistakes. Gene Roy, N8ER, and Bob Hanson, AF8RH, caught me in one of
them on last week's State Wide DAREN Net. While I was cleaning up the check-in
file I accidently deleted their callsigns from the list. I use several
different ways to make sure that I get everyone's check-in, but that doesn't
mean I can't goof and delete something. I use a back-up file in case something
happens to the main file. I don't cross-check the two files unless I know
something is wrong. If you ever see that your callsign is missing on the check-
in list, let me know. I like to make sure that everyone gets the credit they
deserve. Most of the time it's an equipment malfunction, but, I do make
mistakes. Gene and Bob's records have been corrected. Sorry guys.

There were 62 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Bob Steele,
N8HGL, needs only one more check-in to make 500. And Jim Woodford, KC8MLK,
needs only one more check-in to make 200. There was one new check-in to the
net this week and that was Kenneth Butler, WA8TO, from Beverly, WV. I want to
welcome Ken to the DAREN system and hope that he checks in as often as
possible.
