Hello Ian G0TEZ ....

I am so honoured that you are doing this posting for my
benefit , and second for the many or any others that might
be reading.

I was going to post right after I read Trevor M1CUK's
first posting, of the BBS going off this weekend...then
I got the second one and a bit of a delayed action and
the news it will not take place until November 2008.

Ian. I posted to encourage growth, not to flush it down
the toilet. I know what it takes to run a BBS, and
while not active now after mine went off in 2005, I
also indicated why I had to stop, and as with anything
there was nobody to takeover, as they didn't want the
job.

I also left my email address at the end of my posting
and I did get email about my posting.

Reads like you Ian have a home in one of these new
subdivisions, where before buying you sign a form about NO
aerials ... but then also local government for the people
mostlikely was lobbyed to get a law passed to ban them
all.

VE3YRA BBS ..the BBS I used was the same distance or less
from me too Ian..when it was moved by the local Ham club
to Aurora where it died for unexplained reasons.

My signal to YRA up here before the move was great, the
sysop had a dialup connection, and I had a radio gateway
via my landline BBS...as well I carried all FBB programs
on my BBS, which he downloaded when and if YRA had problems.

I know a lot of traffic comes via and originates at
GB7FCR BBS and the efforts of Trevor M1CUK are not unknown
to me. I have exchanged emails with Trevor in the past
good and bad ... mutual respect ... and I will keep my
email connection with him, no matter what happens.

I also email other sysops in the UK and Europe, and
over here too, so I think we all know what it takes to
run a BBS

When you mention John G8MNY ...well I usually get him "live"
via the bridge, converse or whatever it is called, and I
enjoy his advice which has helped a lot over here, and as
recent with a blind operator.

>I might look around for another telnet BBS, always assuming

Well Ian. I hope you do get with another BBS..but only
after exhausting all efforts to keep GB7FCR BBS from going
off-air. Just remember..once gone...it will take a lot
to get it all back.

Why follow the sheep? You have until November 2008.
The sheep QRT'ed too early.

If I lived there, I'd be emailing Trevor. Or a phone call
to see what can be done.

Good point. Not because of users is it that this fine BBS
is going off ???

Before I mentioned club sponsored BBSes, but then look at my
example here...they closed it...because their membership
are Internet hams.

Ian... Here we have for repeater systems a fund. It helps
groups further up north who have few members by getting them
needed equipment and supplys to get their repeaters hooked
to our system. Packet also has this system. Time to
check into the national packet funding in UK and get some
ca$h to the GB7FCR BBS.

GB7FCR BBS is NOT dead yet Ian. Actually the ball is
in your hands.

I am medically retired on a pension watching every penny
as most who have entered this so-called "Golden Years"
<<< I know what Golden Years mean now! >>>

I am going to encourage everyone who cares, to do as I have
for my local BBS and system...and that is get innvolved
anyway YOU can.

Setup a charity fund for YOUR BBS.

Gotta go Ian ... I am getting woundup and not good for the BP
