For Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Central America is experiencing a divided risk scenario: while southern countries are under warnings of flash flood surveillance and the entry of a new tropical wave, the northern nations deal with maximum emergency decrees due to extreme weather drought. 
The following are the official alerts and surveillances in force for tomorrow:
🇵🇦 Panama: Surveillance Notice of 72 Hours per Tropical Wave No. 42
The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA) has issued a new National Surveillance Notice: 

    Tropical Wave Pass No. 42: The entry of this unstable system will activate storms from strong to very heavy accompanied by frequent rains and local wind gusts throughout the country. 
    Preventive Green Alert (SINAPROC): The SINAPROC maintains the monitoring of basins because the soils in Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro, Veraguas, Colón and the metropolitan sector register levels of water saturation close to 709There is a high risk of sudden urban flooding and landslides. 
    El Niño Monitoring: At the same time, surveillance is maintained on the historically low levels of the internal reservoirs and the Canal. 

🇨🇷 Costa Rica: Intertropical Convergence Zone Surveillance
The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) warns of an increase in humidity due to the temporary weakening of trade winds: 

    Risk of Evening Floods: The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone will generate severe atmospheric instability in the afternoon. The National Emergency Commission (CNE) maintains active prevention warnings in the North Zone, the Northern Caribbean and mountainous sectors. 
    Slopes Vulnerability: The population in areas prone to landslides are asked to remain alert, as local afternoon downpours will affect soils already saturated by events last week. 

🇸🇻 El Salvador: National Red Alert for Severe Drought
In an absolute climate contrast, the Directorate-General for Civil Protection and the Ministry of the Environment (MARN) keep the National Red Alert active: 

    Hydroagricultural Emergency: The alert responds to a strong accumulated water deficit and the extension of extreme dry periods linked to the El Niño phenomenon. 
    Focused Electric Storms: Despite the general drought, the MARN monitors the development of isolated but strong convective storms during the afternoon and night in the volcanic chain and the northern strip (Santa Ana, Chalatenango and Morazán) with the capacity to generate destructive wind gusts. 

🇭🇳 🇳🇮 Honduras and Nicaragua: Local Notices of Cuencas

    Both countries operate under routine weather surveillance warnings. The departments of the mountainous interior are closely monitored due to the development of rapid evolution showers that could generate rapid floods in short-haul streams at the end of the afternoon.
