For tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Central America will maintain a dynamic weather pattern marked by moisture flow from both oceans and interaction with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
The general forecast by slopes and mountain ranges is as follows:
1. Mountain Ranges and Highlands
(Sierra Madre of Chiapas/Guatemala, Isabelia Mountain Range, Central Mountain Range of Costa Rica and Panama, Guatemalan Highlands)
• Morning: Fog banks and dense mist at dawn. Cool to cold conditions with partly cloudy skies as the sun rises.
• Afternoon / Night: The mountainous terrain will encourage rapid cloud development. Moderate to heavy downpours are expected, accompanied by scattered thunderstorm activity and possible wind gusts.
• Temperatures:
- Highlands and very high elevations: 12 °C to 20 °C (54 °F to 68 °F).
- Mid-elevation mountain areas: 20 °C to 26 °C (68 °F to 79 °F).
2. Pacific Slope
(From the Pacific coasts of Guatemala, El Salvador, Gulf of Fonseca, Costa Rica to Panama)
• Morning: Sun with scattered or partial clouds. Predominantly warm to hot mornings.
• Afternoon / Night: This slope will see the highest concentration of afternoon thunderstorms due to sea breezes and instability. Severe local rains and frequent thunderstorms are forecasted.
• Temperatures: Highs between 30 °C and 34 °C (86 °F to 93 °F).
3. Caribbean Slope and Gulf of Honduras
(Northern coast of Honduras, Caribbean side of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Petén, and Verapaces)
• Morning: Intermittent cloudy skies. Scattered rains or showers starting early in coastal sectors and offshore.
• Afternoon / Night: Isolated to moderate downpours. In the far south (Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and Panama), rain intensity will increase during the afternoon hours.
• Temperatures: Highs between 28 °C and 32 °C (82 °F to 90 °F).
Monitoring Points
• Soil Saturation: Special attention required on mountain slopes in Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and the Panamanian Central Range due to the risk of landslides or mudslides.
• River Flooding: Flash floods and fast-responding river basins on the central and southern Pacific slope.
